I do not like giving bad reviews, but this was an exception. The food was NOT terrible at all, quite tasty actually. My 2.5 stars (3stars) goes to the lack of service this place has. We had to ask MANY times for services that should have been a standard: napkins, utensils, & refills. Our order was not also completely fulfilled. We originally ordered sausage with one of our shrimp pounders. The wait was above average. I was not completely disappointed, but if those flaws were fixed this place would be alright. I would say, it is definitely a hit or miss depending on day and server.

Omfg! This place is the bomb. I had gone with a couple girlfriends who have been here multiple times so they basically popped my Shrimp Lover cherry :P Let me tell you. It was a unique dining experience for sure. The girls already knew what they wanted so I went along and got a shrimp dish (mild because I could not handle spice). We also ordered a big bowl of steamed rice because Lord knows we islanders and Latinos love our rice (1 Filipina, 2 Chamorros including myself, 1 Nicaraguan), and some dranks to wash down all the yummy goodness. I loved the whole messy factor: using our hands to peel the shrimp. Mind you my Filipina friend was a freakin' peeling expert. She ended up helping me peel mine so I could enjoy as well because I was slow as hell! Overall, I enjoyed my food, the atmosphere and the experience!

The Shrimp Lover was a very pleasant surprise. We normally go to one of the crab restaurants in the pier, but today, that wasn't speaking to all of us. We decided to look further and while walking back towards the car park, we looked up and saw the Shrimp Lover. It didn't look promising but the menu has some Thai dishes and coconut so we decided to give it a try. We are very glad we did and I can see this becoming a regular destination in the Pier. We ordered some standby dishes, chicken pad see ew (fried noodles), New England clam chowder and sweet potato fries. All were very good although probably not good enough for us to make a trip just for these items. We also ordered the Dungeness crab and crawfish. When we ordered it, the waiter kept asking how spicy we wanted it. I thought both the craw fish and crab would be steamed like it is normally cooked in the other restaurants. When they served the crawfish, they brought it in a nice little bucket. All of the crawfish were inside a plastic bag that held the sauce. When I licked the sauce off of the outside of the first crawfish, I was blown away by the flavour. It was a red sauce full of (and I mean full of) garlic. Outstanding flavor reminiscent of Singapore Chili Crab. The Dungeness crab arrived in the same way and was even better. We topped it off by ordering a bowl of white rice and eating it in the sauce. Outstanding. Will be back.

The Shrimp Lover is located on the upper level of the Redondo Beach parking structure. It has a Thai atmosphere. I would give this 5 stars if it furnished disposable gloves as Hot & Juicy. I am impressed that the lobster came pre-cut, which made it easy to eat. We ordered the spicy level. I liked the flavor.

Right on the pier and the interior is nothing spectacular. We were a large group of 11 with children. They have 1 option on the "kids menu". Chicken nuggets with mozzarella sticks and fries. Well, ok. The kids seemed happy but some other options would have been nice. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant so we had no view. The menu had a lot of Thai influences. I ordered the fried Pompano. OMG. Amazing. That's all I can say. It was SOOOO good. Our table ordered crab, shrimp, blue crab, with a variety of sauces in those bucket bag things. Everyone was very happy with their food. Mine took a lot longer than I would have liked but again, it was all very good. My husband had the spare ribs with thai fried rice and got horrible indigestion after, so I knocked a star off for that. He just didn't enjoy it at all (should have had seafood like the rest of us)!! Our server was attentive and they did add the gratuity to our bill since we had a large group.

Their shrimp I think is good especially if I want shrimp boil and want my craving satisfied now. Now this base is sweeter than complaring it to boiling crab, claws.... And I'm ok with sweet heat. Prices are similar and diff types of seafood. What I like also is they have Thai food also. another favorite if mine. Satisfy both cravings! My tummy is so happy. They have beer and great for large parties. Parking can suck if it's busy times since they are located at the Redondo pier.

My first time here. I have been coming to REDONDO BEACH PIER. My wife and I is celebrating our 22 year of marriage, don't ask how we made it. we were looking for a place for dinner but couldn't decide we were on the pier and I happen to look up. Wifey wanted to try it. I had the duginous crab with a Thai dish pad Thai it was great. My wife had snow crab. atmosphere little loud and the culture shows how good it is. hospitality very good a d attentive. We would return

Really good.. you get more for your money here than the boiling crab which offers the same food and sauce.

Service: No connection with the customers, but we had no problem. My family of 6 was seated immediately at an empty table by the window overlooking the pier/ocean. I think you can reserve those seats. Food: Shrimp was good with the medley! Muscles were ok. Calamari was chewy. We also got the Fried Oceans (a little too salty for me). The Seafood Soup was pretty good. View: Beautiful.

I remember going to the Hollywood location when it was still called Boiling Shrimp. That was my first experience with this chain, and it was a pleasant one. This place is Thai influenced, so you'll find a lot of Thai dishes along with the standard menu items you'd find at say, the Boiling Crab. This location is not exception, the food here is good and you have a view of the Redondo Beach Pier. If you want to have a similar experience to Boiling Crab in Torrance, I recommend this place as a substitute. It will save you the hassle of waiting in line to eat a place that serves nearly the same food. I've been here a handful of times with parties bigger than 5 and we've never had to wait on seating. I usually order 1lb shrimp bag with a mix of all the spices (melody, I think) without the Indian spices. The bag of the hot link sausages are good too, but make sure to tell them to throw in a few more potatoes, it's really worth a few extra to fill up on.

This is my favorite "seafood in a bag" place. Great views of the pier, good food, never have to wait long, nice big eating area. And you can go walk around afterwards if you haven't seen enough seafood. Recommend getting the medley of flavors, the seasonings run spicy, so I usually just get mild. I've tried the shrimp, king crab and mussels, love it all! My sister had the Pad See Ew, which was a rookie mistake. Don't get the thai food. Just stick to fried seafood or fried potatoes or seafood in the bags. OK other than the fact that they serve good food at a good location, here are other reasons why I like this place. 1. They show their prices on a big board in the front. I like that, I hate when people get sketchy about their prices. 2. The waitress repeated the order back to us. A little time consuming but the order was perfect. 3. She taught us how to use the paper towels so we don't get a paper towel and seafood bag disaster. 4. The hilarious phrases around the restaurant: for example they say Soda (Refill) and Thai Iced Tea (Unrefill). Also "please do not throw things at the toilet". Please visit and explore to find all other funny phrases. My only negative is that at Boiling Crab they give free corn and potato, which this place doesn't. Also where were the wet wipes? Oh well, I'll still come here.

Went back the second time, and tried their oyster and blue crabs, oyster was not fresh and the crab was under cook the first time. Do not recommend getting g the oyster or the blue crab.

VERDICT: Without having to leave the South Bay for the Boiling Crab like fix. Tasty flavor alternative too! QUALIFIER: Parking gets hectic weekend afternoons FOOD: By far, the best is shrimp. Bucket of clams is also good. Serve the sauce over a order if white rice, and then you'll be in garlic heaven! The fried rice plate taste just like the sauce over rice except you get other meats and greens. The bucket of beer is a good deal. SERVICE: Always attentive servers, automatic gratuity in larger parties. The owner is actually in the kitchen, at least I think that was the guy in the apron doing an interview with a potential waitress

Same concept as boiling crab, craw daddy , kickin crab, rays crabshack etc but its right by hermosa beach you could have a window seating and get an ocean view. but unfortunately we didn't get that. 1lb portion just seemed small compared to all the shrimp eating places I've been to. Cajun fried were thick cut but didn't taste like the cajun fries I'm use to. Not sure if theres a difference from them here and the bay area. Its cool that you can buy a bundle of beer in a bucket ($15) My visit was ok, I dont like having to keep asking for things because they skimp you out and give you 3 sliced lemons when theres 4 people eating. Atmospere is fun, don't remember if there was music playing? I guess if you're from this area I would recommend. But i give it an ok

This place was busy, very clean and great atmosphere. We were sat within a few minutes near the window with a great view! We ordered the "HOUSE SPECIALTY" clams, muscles, snow crab, alaskan king crab, crawfish, corn on the cob, andouille sausage and butter clams. There was plenty of food for the both of us, all this for $39.00 WOW! Owner came by to say "hello" we enjoy our visit, HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant! Lot of value, atmosphere and friendliness! See you soon! SCRC

I really enjoyed this place. It's on the pier with a nice ocean view. Its a "seafood in a bag" restaurant without the ghetto, ratchet crowds that The Boiling Crab and Hot & Juicy tend to attract. They also offer some Thai entrees, which I have yet to try and probably won't. Nothing against them serving Thai food as well, but I come here for the seafood (King Crab legs in particular). Good food, good service and no crowds. Thumbs up. I'm gonna be here as often as I can afford it. Seafood is expensive!

This is my go to spot if I'm craving Boiling Crab and not willing to drive all the way out to LA or OC. In the times I've been the restaurant is never too busy and they're always consistent with the service. It's also a nice date spot as it overlooks the Redondo Beach Pier. Parking is easy as there's an underground structure. I can't remember the rates for parking but I spent like a buck or two for 2 hours which isn't bad. The thing that I like about this place is they offer lots of different things compared to Boiling Crab. There are plenty of dishes with rice and noodles if someone isn't feeling like getting messy and eating out of a bucket. I'm normally set with a pound of shrimp and side of rice. I feel like they give you a lot more than BC as well as the flavor is just as good. I felt like the shrimp was a bit tougher to eat but nonetheless still good.I've ordered the fried oysters as well as fried calamari and both were really good with cajun fries. Overall I really like this place. Good location, good service, good food. I definitely will be coming back whenever I feel the need to get messy and peel some shrimp.

So glad that Shrimp Lover is in the South Bay! This is where I go when I'm too lazy to drive to boiling crab. Honestly, I am a creature of habit so I always get the same thing: fried calamari and 1 lb of shrimp. The fried calamari is BOMB!! So good.. It comes in a small basket; half calamari, half seasoned fries. I wish we can get all calamari... But no. The shrimp. I get it with a medium spice and garlic butter. Add potatoes and corn, and you're good to go. Instead of garlic butter, I used to get everything (equivalent to "the whole shabang") but it wasn't that great. Not much flavor. After I converted to garlic butter, my life is complete!! Service is friendly; they don't check up on you often but they refill your water and give you what you ask for. That's all I need. Parking is easy, if you don't mind paying a dollar or two. There's a structure for the redondo beach pier. Very convenient. In my opinion, everything is yummy. But I think it can be a little overpriced. It's not overwhelmingly expensive, but a little more than what other places offer. I can't decide if the shrimp lover is better than BC or not... But I don't miss BC, so I think that says something.

We'd been to the pier many times and even the last time, we contemplated eating here, but we didn't. So, we were looking for a place to eat and nothing excited us, so we thought this would be something different. We eat Thai food and Seafood, but never Thai-Cajun-Seafood all categorized into one thing. When you are seated, they bring out a thick piece of waxy paper for your table because they know you're going to make a mess! There are paper towel rolls set out, too. After we got seated, the place began to fill up fast... they got busy! We hit the seafood jackpot as far as the food goes! First up was the Thai Iced Tea, a little too sweet and condensed milky even for me who loves it SWEET! We started out with a cup of Clam Chowder and Garlic Bread. Those both were awesome, the best clam chowder ever!! It was super creamy and perfect. We ordered King Crab Legs cooked in the MEDLEY (ALL SEASONING MIX) and Fire for spice level. We really, really, really loved the King Crab Legs with potatoes and little corn cobs steamed in the bag and brought to the table! I can't recall seeing seafood served like this, it was unique to me and makes sense! You get a pair of scissors, and a tool to get the crab meat out with. My husband asked for plates and forks and the waitress looked at us incredulously, questioning us, "forks and plates?" Um, yes... we have potatoes and rice to eat. Even with seafood, I don't think it is too much to ask for a fork and a plate. She did cater to us and bring us what we asked for. I would give this place 5 stars if she had just done it in the first place and if the service was a tad bit better. All in all, it wasn't terrible! If you should happen to have leftovers, they take your food and bag it up for you. We only had bread left and they did that. If you like seafood, you really should give this place a chance!

My sisters and I would frequent this restaurant before it blew up. It was never a full house, always just a few tables occupied. Nowadays there's at least a 30 minute wait.. I always wondered why they didn't make use of the other half of the restaurant. After my last two visits, I can see why they don't. A previous visit was with my boyfriend. It was a few months ago and from what I remember, we vowed never to come back. From about the time we were sat to the time we received our food was AT LEAST 45 minutes. To paint a better picture, we were sat down while the sun was getting ready to set and we got our food when the sun was already gone! During the time we were waiting for our food, we watched a party of 4 sit down for a good 15 minutes and then got up and left. Not one employee came to their table within that time frame! If it wasn't for the fact that we had already placed our food order, we would've done the same. Same scenario at my most recent visit. (Family chose the restaurant, I had no other choice.) It took more than enough time to bring us just 2 Thai teas, and my poor nephew had to watch us all eat our meals and didn't get his food until we were all halfway done with ours. Really poor organization when it comes to putting in/out food orders. It was a few months since my previous experience so I thought maybe they stepped it up a notch by maybe hiring more staff or figuring out how to handle their crowds. Not so much. If you are in the South Bay and need a boiling crab fix, this can do. But only the most patient and understanding customers will survive.

Weird that they had all the proteins in individual bags already. So used to everywhere else mixing it all together in one big bag. So initially we were going to order a half a pound of everything. But since it was already in one pound bags, we only opted for the shrimp and crawfish. Did not like the oysters at all! The flavor (medley) was okay. Not as good as the boiling crab. Very nice view of the beach tho. Felt very romantic.

Closest thing to boiling crab in the south Bay Area. It's not the same though. It's more like thai restaurant meets boiling crab. I usually get shrimp medley with medium spiciness and sausage. They have thai food there too and it's never too busy when I go so it's super convenient.

  • Cindy W.

Definitely not worth going! Please steer away, and spend your $$$ elsewhere....I would say The foods freshness might be questionable and the cleanliness of the place just looks dingy and old. I can only imagine the kitchen. I ordered the dungeness crab and paid an arm and a leg for a tastless meal. I picked the medley (all seasonings) and my crab was still bland, it just didnt taste like anything! Usually freah crab has a slight sweetness to it especially when you suck the juice on the legs. Well this didnt and there was chuncks of garlic that was not cooked all the way, i hate crunching on garlic. ....ugh.... this meal just a mess. The short ribs look like it was pre-heated, the chicken wings look like they have been under a heat lamp.

Oh man, I think I just found my new spot for seafood....sorry Boiling Crab, but The Shrimp Lover surpassed my expectations! If you want to try a lil bit of everything, get the seafood combo (Alaskan & snow crab legs, mussels, clams, crawfish, shrimp, corn, sausage and potatoes) in their Medley sauce (mild)....AMAZING!! and we also got the Fried Ocean meal (fried oysters, catfish, fried shrimp and their Cajun fries) and a side of garlic bread.. Everything was sooooo good!!!! Portion sizes are bigger than I expected and very reasonable pricing. I cant wait to come back again!

4 stars for the Louisiana shrimp boil... My mouth is watering just thinking about it

  • ANGELA J.

Surprisingly tasty. I was comparing to Boiling Crab and Hot & Juicy. I would actually prefer this place. There is more of a variety, the medley of sauce was my favorite combination. Do not get the fried oysters, especially if you a fan of oysters, they don't even taste like oysters. Also, you must be a garlic lover for sure! They use quite a bit of it, but it's wonderful. Most of all its much less greasy than the other two places. Would I go back.......? Yes

Thank goodness for The Shrimp Lover, I don't have to go all the way to LA for my Cajun seafood fix at Boiling Crab. El hubby and I picked up food to go on Cindo De Mayo. We had... -2 lbs of steamed shrimp with medley seasonings in mild (has butter, lots of garlic and cajun spices) -$11.99 per lb Their medley seasoning is better than Boiling Crab in my opinion. It's more flavorful and not too salty. -Fried shrimp with french fries $8.99 - Skip this. It was overcooked. -Fried catfish with french fries $8.99 -Skip this as well. It was just okay. It didn't taste fresh O_o. The french fries was good though. Our food came with tons of napkins, 2 bibs and white paper thing they use at the restaurant. Next time, we want to dine here because they have a sick view of the ocean and we also wanna try their Thai food. Besides cajun seafood, they also serve traditional Thai food dishes.

Seriously my favorite. The crawfish is amazing and paired with a bucket of Blue Moon is to die for. I've been coming here for years (back when it was The Boiling Shrimp) and it never disappoints!

My husband loves going to Redondo Beach pier because it hasn't changed much since he was a kid and his parents used to take him. So of course we've tried all the places to eat here and this is my favorite of all the places. You get seated right away by the very friendly staff and the view while you eat is perfect. We always order the shrimp and crab... and it's always cooked just right and their sauce is also really really good. Never takes too long to get the food neither. Whenever we leave we also get thanked by the waiters and hosts.... always look forward to eating here whenever we're around the area.

  • Gonzalo R.

Service was s - l - o - w. I had to get my own bib because the server didn't bring any. Besides which there are no hand washing stations except for the single-person rest rooms. Lastly my son had the "mix" sauce for his shrimp and I had the garlic butter only. They tasted exactly the same. My wife had the fried pompano which was way too dry. Overall make the drive over to Boiling Crab or Claws. This place is terrible.

  • Laura P.

I had this food for the first time yesterday and I feel in love. The view is spectacular, you see the waves flow onto the shore and we saw the sun set. We ordered the combo because it had good reviews and it was nothing short of amazing. The medium spice is actually medium (not too spicy) and the combo was enough for three people to eat. It can get kind of messy so I wouldn't wear white clothes but it's some of the tastiest food I've ever had. I will return soon to re experience the wonderful food.

  • Joseph T.

My girlfriend and I came here on a random Monday around 5 and it was pretty dead so we got good searing with a great view of the ocean. We had the $40 seafood combo medium spicy which was amazing! More than enough food for 2 people to share. We even took some home with us for later. The service was great and very quick. Only thing is that I wish you can substitute the crawfish for more shrimp. The shrimp was a very good and a very generous size. We will definitely be back again with our families.

  • Kelsey C.

I like Shrimp Lover, but I wish I hadn't gone to Garden Grove's Fire Crab first. The Medley Mix sauce makes a pretty good seasoning for their steamed buckets of crawfish, but it was a little bit of a strange combination with the clams. Either way, it's a nice, garlicky, gritty sauce that brings a little heat. All the seafood is fresh, and it washes down nicely with a beer. If you're a fan of Thai beer, they have Chang! They do lose style points for not including corn on the cob in their buckets, but the sauce-soaked potato is definitely a treat.

Service really really sucks!!! Great view though hence the one star. Killing flies while patrons are eating. Service staff seemed bothered during non busy hours and food was good but was overshadowed by bad service. This place won't last.

This place is unique and I love it! I only go once or twice a month but when I do I eat like a king. Anyone who reads my review order the seafood combo it's perfect for 1 - 4 people. I've been eating it with just myself and my date and it would normally be too much food but it's just that good that I can't stop eating when I'm there. Ask for the green sauce on the side it's sooooo good. I'll be back very soon!

Headline: shrimp fix, not for the lazy What: garlic butter lb of shrimp- the shrimp comes in a plastic bag smothered in sauce (you can choose from a variety of sauces) and you purchase by the pound. Oh the plastic bag also arrives in a bucket. The shrimp have not been de shelled or deveined, so the table is set with wax paper and a roll of paper towels so that you can get your mess on! Truly not the type of experience for those who don't like working for their food. It was reasonably priced though, at $11.99 per lb with an ocean view. Ambiance: a bit cheesy- I'm not sure why but with Halloween coming ther were fish nets attached to the ceiling with crumpled dollar bills. Service was asian style-flag down if you need anything- but it was ok.

A weird thai/cajun mix of a restaurant. Nothing too special that stands out except the nice ocean view. A view of which you can peer into the seas and admire all the lively ocean creatures, while you eat their relatives on the table in front of you. If you need your boiling crab fix and don't want to drive out of the South Bay, you found your spot.

If you feel like cheating on the boiling crab then you should give Shrimp lover a try.....It is comparable to Boiling Crab without the long wait and they also serve good Thai food as well ;-) The Shrimp lover is located on Redondo Beach pier with great view of the pier and ocean. It's the kind of place you'd totally go for a summer sunset with beer and buckets full of seafood. I'm just not willing to make the drive to the Boiling Crab and wait 2 hours. The seafood is fresh and perfectly cooked and the seasoning is salty/spicy and swimming in garlic...just the way I like it...yummy The Medley is equivalent to The Whole Sha-bang at Boiling Crab, except the Shrimp lover Mild is spicier than Boiling Crab's. Also when they ask you what spices you'd like to mix in with your bag of goodies, tell them you'd like the "medley" (this is their version of the "whole shebang") except without the Indian spice (just my opinion). Yes It is messy to eat here and you have to peel the shrimps but that is part of the experience if you ask me. Prompt and friendly staff as well......

Very nice location by the pier and pretty big restaurant but they only use half of the size of the whole room. Been there twice. Had shrimp, mussel and crab leg in medley sauce medium spicy, its good. Not overly salty. Pad see ew was ok and tom yum soup is better than other thai restaurant mostly. The clam chowder soup is probably the best i've ever had. Love it! Good service and would love to come back again.

I'm going to update my review and give this place lower rating because of the bad service. These waiters are really rude and have no idea about customer service.

  • Joan Y.

Tastes just like boiling crab, but maybe even better because of the short wait and the great scenic view of the beach. There'a never a long line here and Ive always been seated immediately. The medley is really good. Its a pretty heavy with all the butter but a little cheat once in a while doesnt hurt. I always get shrimp and clams, but Im starting to think clams arent worth it. I usually end up with more shells in my bag vs the clam meat. The cajun fries are bombbb. If you want to order a side of rice and mix some of the sauce with the rice, thats pretty bomb too. Highly recommend this place over boiling crab.

Getting straight to the point. Here we go...customer service was okay. The sauce was not that great in fact it actually taste a bit sweet which was not appealing. My son wanted extra sauce to put in his shrimp but they wouldn't sell me extra sauce. I offered to pay extra and they stated that they simply couldn't give us extra sauce do to the fact that the sauce is cooked in the shrimp. So they said we had to order another order of shrimp to get the extra sauce. I thought that was weird, I've had better and I'm not from around the area so wouldn't come back even if I had the option.

I say so what if no one is there to greet you at the door if the food is GREAT! My family and I had no problems with customer service, staff was very attentive to our needs, food came out in a timely manner. Everything was really good. My son had the Fried Oceans, which is fried shrimp, oysters, calamari, fish and french fries. Daughter had the Blue crab plate I had a bucket of Shrimp and my wife had the seafood hotpot which had a very nice lemongrass, ginger broth! Everything was so fresh and tasty, can't wait to come back and eat again!

In my last review I mentioned that SAM delivered food to my house and was "completely rude and unapologetic about the delayed delivery"... Well, a couple of weeks ago, I was finally able to go to the location to dine in and what do you know, SAM was our server!!!!! Once he let me know that he recognized me from my YELP REVIEW, my date and I had a serious conversation about leaving...we didn't want to be poisoned because of a Yelp review. LOL We decided to stay because we were extremely hungry and it was late. I am so glad we did because the food was sooooo hot and delicious! Sam was great and he actually found a way to apologize for our last experience in his own little way. After dining in, I realized that it takes them a LONG time to prepare the food and that is probably why our delivery arrived so late last time. Needless to say, we will be back again, and again, and again! :)

I finally had the chance to try this place out and I must say, It's pretty good. My brother had flown into town from the Mid-west and he had this huge seafood craving he needed to fulfill. So we looked this place up on yelp and decided to give it a try. Yeah Yeah Yeah everyone compares this place to boiling crab but I think it can actually hold its own recognition. The restaurant boasts both cajun, seafood in a bag offerings but they also have Thai food options. My brother and I shared a whole king crab, a bag of crawfish, and Thai Fried rice with crab. Unlike boiling crab the seafood isn't swimming in the sauce. There is only a small amount of sauce that compliments the taste of the crab and crawfish opposed to masks the natural flavor. I appreciated this because the crab and crawfish were already delicious on their own. The fried rice was really good too! They weren't stingy with the fresh crab meat either. Every bite was so yummy! I will definitely be coming back. Also, many people claimed that service sucked but the servers were actually really attentive, friendly, and helpful.

Best Cajun boil I've been to....and best thing about it: never a wait! Boiling crab always has an hour plus wait... But their flavors here are better! Best I've tried compared to boiling crab, crab hut, house of seafood... You get it. Get all of the above... flavors all mixed: perfection! I won't be going to boiling crab or any other Cajun boil ever again! WINNER right here. Four stars only because service could be better.

Walked in the door made a walkin noise and we were sat in the corner with a nice view of the beach and we're served water immediately , they took our order 2 pounds of shrimp medley SPICY but it tasted more like a medium sauce I'm not sure if they have a recipe or how they make it bc the one on Melrose spicy was spicy really good so the sauce is inconsistent that's why this place lost a star with me. If I go to a restaurant and visit another location of the same place I expect everything to be the same , besides that everything was good and empty maybe bc it was noon. Give this place a shot it's good.

I have a confession Yelp friends....I am a Shrimp Lover kinda girl. How can Jenn G, who is not a big fan of shrimp be a Shrimp Lover kinda girl??) Well, let me explain via this review ;) I do not love shrimp but I am a fan of The Shrimp Lover. This restaurant it is located right at the Redondo Beach pier. It has a prime location where while dining you have a beautiful view of the pier and the ocean. The amazing table side view is one of the reasons I am a fan. The other reason I am a fan is their extensive menu. Yes, they have plenty of food for seafood lovers from clam chowder to boiled shrimp to fried catfish but at the same time they have lots of food for non-seafood eaters too! They have Thai food! I love Thai food and was so thrilled to see they have many of my favorite dishes like curry, pad thai, pad see ew and tom yum! The prices for the Thai food is very reasonable too with combos and noodles starting at $7.99. When I came here, I got to try two Thai dishes. I tried the bbq chicken with fried rice and salad and the chicken pad thai! I was so impressed when the food came out because they were not stingy with their portions! The bbq chicken was half a chicken. The noodle plate was packed! I was even more impressed when I tasted the food. It was delicious! Everything was flavorful! From the fried rice to the bbq chicken to even the side salad, it was all so tasty. Amazing beach side view, decent prices, large portions that is enough for two meals and delicious food, this non-seafood eating gal just became a Shrimp Lover kinda girl! P.S 15% with Yelp check-in during weekdays or 10% with Facebook check-in and tag of 4 friends every day

Nice place to come with friends. Food is good and at a reasonable price. Staff is friendly. Nicole told us that how crab legs were a much better deal. Then wait was a bit long but it kook liked they were under staff....

One star for their Cajun flavor! We came here yesterday for an early dinner. No one was at the host area to greet and seat you. You literally had to keep walking over their dining area to find someone only to be greeted by a miserable waitress. Not sure if these people should be working in customer service. I had to flag them down to order, flag them down for water, flag them down for lemons, flagged them down for EVERYTHING!!! Worst customer service ever! They just look at you when you ask them for something, even the manager was unfriendly and very miserable looking. A large party came to be seated, he looked so annoyed and instead of helping the party, he looked very irritated getting an extra chair for them. This place has the potential to do well but they have to fire out all those unhappy waitresses and manager. Good luck on your visit! Definitely turned me off!

It's similar to boiling crab except with all the wait and the crowd. It's a hidden place in Redondo Beach Pier. While dining you get to experience the view of the pier. I like that they serve the shrimp in buckets, it keeps the sauce without spilling. Try their Medley it's similar to the whole shabang. It's close to home and it's good with descent prices. Cajun fries are also good but I like their sweet potatoes more.

Found a boiling crab knockoff on the pier! This is like junk food for me since I live on Avenue C, a bike ride away from this place. Food: We skipped the thai, which I assume most do, and went straight for the BC stuff. 1 lb. each shrimp, whole mix with medium spice. 1 lb mussels same way, and some fries. A solid albeit large meal. Flavor is excellent. The sauce is much thicker than BC and less oily, and you can definitely taste the butter opposed to those in B.C. They use some basil and red pepper in their sauce which is a nice touch and a nod to their Thai roots I assume. Let's be straight - this is a thai food place that happens to be serving the B.C. now. Price is more expensive than B.C. (11.99/lb shrimp, same for mussels) but what do you expect? You're on the pier in the southbay and you're eating a B.C. knockoff. You have to use the buckets for the shells, which is a great way to minimize mess and maximize table space, and I think something B.C. could really leverage later on. It's not 5* because the service is typically rude, as I found most thai places to be, but I won't complain about that too much...

I was never too fond of this restaurant when it first came out nor will I ever be unless they fix their awful service. As a starter, their food is okay. My family typically goes here to satisfy the cravings for boiling crab but it never did me justice. The medley mix, which is similar to the whole shabang, is a combination of all seasonings/flavorings. It has very curry-like taste that throws me off and takes away the Cajun taste i look for. Removing the Indian Spice can remove that curry-like taste but still of course never fulfilled my cravings for tasty shrimp provided at the boiling crab. The only think I would enjoy eating is the calamari and the Cajun fries. The rest is a bust. A failed boiling crab mock. Their service is absolutely horrible. When this first opened, everything was okay. On a typical weekend the restaurant would barely be half full and the employees paid close attention to all the customers. However, as business started to rise, their service fell. The waiter and waitress that took care of our table did not once check up on how we were doing or refill our beverages until we were already finished eating and about to leave. The Thai Tea we ordered took about 20 minutes to come to our table and my basket of fried seafood did not come to me until my entire family was more than half way done with their food. To put it in simpler terms, the service at a beat down McDonald's restaurant deserves the automatic tip of $16 we were charged for being a party of 6 or more. I won't be coming here again.

They don't de-vain their shrimp, which completely grossed me out. A shrimp has two veins, one on its stomach and the other along its back. Those veins contain the shrimp's waste. When you eat any type of waste, it contains toxins and even more gross--it's shrimp poo. Unfortunately, shrimp have very tight buttholes, but eating the insides of their buttholes is extremely...loose butthole.

"2.5 Terrible service. They did not have a hostess at the door to greet us." Who the F are you guys? The Fellowship of the Pier coming back from Mordor? Please. Who cares? You come to a place like this, you might wanna leave your pompous Yelper checklist out of that door. While you're at it, tell Gandalf to leave his staff out of the door as well. ;) Anyway, I was here a few weeks ago, and I absolutely want to come back again next month for that sauce. You see, there's Cajun shrimp, and then there's Cajun shrimp with The Shrimp Lover's own sauce concoction! And let me tell you, that sauce is so delicious that things may get dangerous! Yes, dangerous in the sense where you might find yourself fighting for that last piece of shrimp with whoever you're with, just because of that sauce those precious and succulent things are soaked in. (Shit, now I know what it's like to be Chris Broussard. Sauces.) Seriously though, you might actually turn into Gollum, caressing that last piece of shrimp and calling it your precious. It's that fucking good! No, waiter! Step away! Mmmyyy preciouuusssh. ::: gently caresses plump shrimp belly in hand :::

Great first time visit. We ordered 1lb shrimp garlic butter with corn and sausage & 1lb shrimp original (Louisiana style). Loved the garlic butter, lots of garlic and it was so aromatic. The Louisiana was too spicy for my bf, but there are levels of spiciness you can choose from. We also ordered the cajun fries and sweet potato fries. The cajun seasoning is delish and nothing is overly fried. Thumbs up for service also, they knew when to come over at the right times (refills and check ups). Quick tip: we showed up around 5:30pm, great timing. There was a long line out the door by 7pm.

Best location... Great ocean view if you can get a table by the glass wall side. Wise selection of food ***not just SHRIMP*** LoL and they are outstanding. Sam, the owner is super friendly and serve you with a smile as well. Surprisingly, the price is very reasonable. Love it!

Had a great meal!! Ordered the seafood combo and Dungeness crab. We ordered both with the meadly spice Mild and thank goodness we ordered mild because the temperature - Scoville scale was more like hot. The spices were very tastee. I ordered a side of rice which was delicious with some of the sauce over it. Highly recommend this place for any seafood lover looking for great fresh seafood. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other seasonings.

Tried the crawfish in the bag today and it was great! Crawfish tasted fresh and the spices were so flavorful!! Hard to find in the south bay since I normally have to go to Orange county for that kind of yumminess. I also like the fact that its mixed with Thai food so I can get an thai iced tea to cool my mouth down after eating all the spices.

Service was minimal here. You walk in and no greeting. There is no person in plain sight to ask and seat you. They gave me one measly corn in my shrimp really? And a lot of potatoes could of gave me more shrimp and crawfish. I like how they used potatoes to make my bag weigh out to a pound. NOT I was not fooled nice try. I seriously felt jipped :/ On top of that the shrimp didn't tasted like it absorbed the sauce (medley) and it only was on the exterior of the shell and the flavors were not infused in the crawfish either. Really didn't want to compare this place to Boiling Crab but their food wasn't even amazing in its own and unique way. So disappointed beyond belief. On top of that my food was piping hot to the point where I was in pain trying to take the shell off of my shrimp and crawfish. I am not exaggerating the food was so hot to the point where I almost could not handle it and I have a high pain tolerance. It's like the food was sealed in that bag forever and didn't get a chance to cool down a bit because they took forever to get my food out to me. Smh never again. My dad's salad looked like a joke. Smh it was like they got it out of a bag from the grocery store.

The Shrimp Lover is good for a nice sunset dinner while eating seafood. My family and I got shrimp and snow crab legs. The shrimp was just okay, but the crab legs were delicious. It was more than I thought it'd be food wise and price wise. The restaurant is above the pier, so parking is right under. The waiters and waitresses are nice, but do not come around as much to give water, so make sure to ask for refills!

Went here last night cause I really wanted seafood and bf didn't not want to wait in traffic to get to long beach. When we got there the place was empty, I was scared it wouldn't be good, but everyone arrived just after we did! We ordered Shrimp - the sauce was there but only on the shell the shrimp itself had no flavor. So we peeled all the shrimp and threw it into the bag with the sauce. Clams- was good, there were empty shells and broken shells in the bag, I'm sure there was less clams due to this. Fried calamari - good! Not tentacles though and I wish they had tartar sauce instead of ranch. Cajun fries - good! Lots of seasoning! Very hot! Temp wise. Louisiana seasoning - for shrimp and clams was ok we've had better. We ordered mild but this was more like hot for me. Bf loved it though. There was a lot of oil at the bottom of the bag, unlike other places that had thicker sauce we could scoop. Corn - sweet and juicy. I suspect it was frozen though. Sausage - spicy! And looked as if it had not been in the sauce would have been very dry. Service was good, quick to refill water and soda. This place is more of a 3 star food wise. However when we got home last night bf had tummy issues and I'm having them as I type this review. Not bathroom issues though. We've never experienced this with other seafood places. I think next time I'll fight traffic and go o long beach.

Closest thing to getting your Boiling Crab fix in the South Bay. Pros - Just as flavorful as BC with similar options - Not as oily - Many options if you don't want the typical BC stuff, they have rice dishes - Amazing view of the pier Cons - Service is not quite good, we had to flag down our waitress from time to time - Service was slow even though it wasn't packed - A bit pricier (not surprised given the location) - Birthday song. For those celebrating a birthday, they obnoxiously and loudly play Gangnam Style/Happy Birthday as they come out with props to dance with you. If I really really really wanted seafood served like this, I would come here. However, I'd still prefer Boiling Crab over this place. Too bad all the Boiling Crab around me are pretty far.

Yummy food, views, and reasonably priced. We had the boiled shrimp and boiled clams, all with some kind of spicy, tangy sauce (with sliced oranges and maybe kefir lime leaves). Although we originally ordered the lemon pepper and garlic butter flavorings, we were glad it didn't actually come with those; it would have just been boring. Also got the fried calamari, garlic bread, the corn on the cob and Thai fried rice with crab. The last of these was highly addictive! The lady who served us most of our meal was super friendly and cheerful, and we beat the crowds by getting here at around 5:30 on a weekend. The picture window had a nice, calm view of the ocean, and the boardwalk below. Great place for a low-key dinner.

Just like Boiling Crab in Alhambra. Yum, they got the Louisiana Cajun flavor perfected at this place. They also serve Thai and Chinese fusion if you want extra greasy goodness. Plus, with the Yelp check in you get a free soda.

Let's be honest, this place is playing in The Boiling Crab's game, and I have to admit...it's doing a pretty good job. One thing that sets this place apart from The Boiling Crab is a Thai theme to the restaurant. Got myself a Thai iced tea and it was pretty tasty- but really, Thai iced tea is pretty hard to mess up. Foodwise- I stuck with the seafood like they would serve in The Boiling Crab. You have the option of mixing up whatever spices you'd like with theseafood, corn, and sausage. I had a mixed seafood plate...got it pretty spicy with lots of garlic. Maybe not for some, but I loved it! They also have fried seafood plus Cajun fries- I tried the fried oysters which were pretty good. Service was pretty good. The servers will make sure your orders are right and that you've got enough paper towels on the table.

YOU WONT WAIT, YOU WONT STARVE! Better than BOILING CRAB. I wish I would have found this place sooner. They have similarities but this place also makes Thai dishes. Great Ocean view, great place to have lunch on a Saturday or Sunday, then you can walk the pier. This place is also kid friendly which I loved! It was a little hard to find at first but once we found it we loved it and will definitely go back. If you want to enjoy some sea food in a bag with good seasonings, great calamari, a nice cold beer right by the ocean with NO WAIT please stop by this place :)

Food is excellent and the portion sizes are big enough to share (literally, some come in buckets). I ordered the snow crab legs with mild spiciness and with garlic butter. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp with fire spiciness (it really is like fire in your mouth), and our friend ordered the grilled salmon plate and fried shrimp that came with Cajun fries. Every food item was delicious. The only thing that is a huge con is the waiting service. We literally had to raise our hand anytime we needed another beer, more paper towels, to remind them we ordered a side of rice that never came, etc. if we didn't, they probably wouldn't even think to come by to bring us our check. So, if you have A LOT of patience and a tolerance to heat, you might like this place.

This restaurant is well deserving of 5 stars. I came to eat with my wife and left full. But let me explain. The food delicious, the service great, the atmosphere comfortable, and the view of the ocean amazing. We ordered two pounds of shrimp one medium medley and one fire medley with sausage and potatoes. I love spicy so it was on point. Cajun fries were crispy and seasoned right. Overall I really like this kind of food we have been to 5 different ones and this is a new spot for me to get my shrimp Grubbin on at. I recommend you stopping by if you enjoy this style of seafood.

The worst Thai restaurant I've ever been. Seafood was not fresh enough, but sea view is nice. If you ever been to Thailand, you'll know this is not the real Thai flavor. The service was terrible, too. Looks unhappy immediately and apparently when we asking him to change to another dish during ordering. After all, we will never go there again.

I have had better. I am a shellfish lover. The customer service was a real rush you feeling. They didn't check on you at all because they were so busy trying to get everybody's seated. We had to interrupt them several times to ask for things that we needed to complete our meal. Everything is Al a carte. I had my shrimp mild flavor which was flavorless. I tried my friends who had lobster which was spicy flavored, it was a little better but it still wasn't worth the price. Now my friend he enjoyed it but I did not. It wasn't Chef Shrimp or bowling Crab

Like everyone has mentioned this isnt no boiling crab, but i came in here not expecting it to be like that so i enjoyed the food. Its located on the second floor of the pier. We walked right in and got seated right away. I love the view you get while sitting and eating your food! We ordered shrimp, mussels, clams in the medley sauce and fried oysters. The sauce was pretty good! If anyone has tried claws (another boiling crab wannabe) this place is waaaay better! Our service was alright not great but not bad, they always refilled our drinks so thats a plus. The one thing they messed up on was forgetting our order of clams, they brought it out immediately after reminding them so thats ok. I'll be coming back here again.

We are very excited to finally find this type of shrimp/crab boil restaurant other than Joe's Crab Shack. This place is definitely MUCH BETTER and their Medley sauce is delicious! We've ordered the shrimp and Alaskan king crab and the medley sauce before. The staff is mixed with some very friendly and smiling and a couple that look like they just don't want to be there. The location is fantastic since its on the upper level of the Redondo Pier by the police station. The view is beautiful especially if you catch the sunset. Only reason why I'm deducting a star is because the first couple of times we came here, we waited at least 45 mins to an hour for a table. The worst part was that they were so busy that nobody was at the front greeting people thus we didn't know how to get on the list. We figured it out ourselves to write our name on the clipboard but there were a lot of people coming in that were standing around and didn't figure that out. They also have a whole section on the right side as you come in including a nice bar that they use for storage. Because of that, it makes the place look disorganized. They could make so much more money if they opened that bar so people can have drinks while waiting for they table. Other than that, this place has been great!

I am a big Boiling Crab and Kickin' Crab fan. I hardly make it out to those places because I live in the South Bay. I was skeptical at first that Shrimp Lover could be in the same league, but they really deliver. I am very impressed by their yummy house sauce. They make it their own by adding in Indian spices and Thai seasoning. I feel very lucky to live right down the street from this place. Crawfish/seafood boil with beautiful beach views and baseball on TV make for a wonderful night.

Food was good. I always get the shrimp with shell on (Medley and Mild) with corn, BBQ Ribs and Cajun Fries Shrimp - You get to choose the flavor (Original, Garlic Butter, Lemon Pepper, Indian Spice, Medley (mix of all)) and you also get to choose the level of spiciness. It also, comes with potatoes. You order by pound. BBQ Ribs - 2 pieces of ribs, a side salad and a side of rice. Meat comes right off and very tasty. Fresh Young Coconut - Not so fresh and young Service - Always "off"... It's either, they forget to bring an order out or they don't know what you're talking about. Dine In - they forgot to bring our drinks out and an order of shrimp. Delivery - took an hour and a half and they forgot my fresh coconut. Pick up - they seemed "lost" when we said that we were there to pick up our order. They ask for your phone number when you call in and ask for your name when you pick up your order. Good food but poor service. I would go back but maybe order to-go and make sure they get my order right and check my order before I leave.

All of these 1-2 star reviews that talk about poor customer service are true. There was no one to greet us at the door; it was like walking into an empty restaurant when it really isn't. We had to sign in ourselves, and had one of the employees rush by just to seat us. When we were finally seated, I was expecting my experience to be good enough to rate this place 4/5 stars. Sadly, our waitress, Pitpatsorn (remember that name and avoid her like the plague) couldn't keep her emotions in check and made our experience horrible. I tried to order something from one of their specials, which had mussels, but forgot to read the fine print (my fault, sorry). So I decided just to order something different from the main (calamari w/fries), along with a side of corn on the cob. Now let me give you all a little disclaimer: it is very hard to hear inside the best restaurant, and the employee's thick Asian accents sometimes made it hard to understand. This is coming from an Asian who has tiger parents BTW. Speaking of which... Due to the reasons listed above, my order got lost in translation when Pitpatsorn suggested that I get the mussels on the main menu instead, since it already came with corn on the cob. So I said 'OK'. At this point, I thought she said "Is that all?" so I said "Yes". I must have missed her reiterating that she included the calamari instead of replacing it with the mussels. The next thing that Pitpatsorn did was uncalled for: after she took my order, she didn't even bother to take my husband's and seemed set to go back in the kitchen! My husband had to get a hold of her quick before she made her move! When my food arrived, I expected to get mussels but instead got calamari. I told Pitpatsorn that wasn't what I ordered that I had it changed to mussels, but she insisted that I ordered the calamari along with the mussels. When I tried to clarify this to her, she put the blame on me with this reasoning: "I thought when you ordered, you were also ordering for your husband. That's why I included the calamari. And I went over the way order list and made it clear to you two about the order, so it's not my fault!" (*She spoke this in an irritated tone, all the while scribbling harshly on her note pad when we politely ask her to cancel the mussels). So what she was truly trying to say was, "Oh, I made a faulty assumption that you were also ordering for your husband without even asking you if you were and just went about my way. I assumed that this food was what you wanted! I'm going to put the blame on you because now you made my day bad, so I'm going to make sure that you feel like crap!" Okay, having one person order for the entire family without asking the others what to order, may be standard in some parts of Asia. But here in the US, the server usually asks each person. This is the protocol that Pitpatsorn should have made, but instead she had to be rude about it. There was a reason why I wrote some things in parenthesis that may have been my fault, and I would say an apology for it like a mature customer would. However, Pitpatsorn seemed to miss the point that her not directly asking my husband what to order and instead assuming off the top of her head that I also ordered for him, was her own fault. I would have pointed this out when she started blaming me, but held back because I didn't want to cause a scene should she react immaturely. Lecturing a customer about a mistake, then blaming them for it (all the wall scribbling out my canceled order furiously) was so unprofessional of her. If I was at the Boiling Crab and the same thing happened, the servers would be like "Oh that's OK. It was a misunderstanding; don't worry too much about it. I can get it taken care of!" If I get a response from the employees here on Yelp for my review, it may go 2 ways: either they apologize for this and strive to make customer service better, or they don't and instead continue blaming me and act unprofessional. If it's the former, then you may have won my business back because I do love your food and think you are a worthy competitor to Boiling Crab. I was even going to take my parents here when they come down to visit...but if it's the latter, well then good job at making me feel like sh!t because you have succeeded! I hope the surrounding businesses make better money than you to the point where yours gets shut down, and I will instead continue to refer everyone to Boiling Crab. Also, you'd be in the same league as the infamous "Amy's Baking Co." from Kitchen Nightmares, since apparently from all these negative reviews, you have too much hubris to treat your customers well and take no responsibilities--not even an apology--for food poisoning incidents or for bad days when your food has unfortunately been undercooked, overcooked, etc. Be lucky that I didn't even have a problem with my food compared to these reviews. Otherwise, you need Gordon Ramsay's help with both that and customer service.

Went here a couple nights back since I was craving cajun shrimp. I only went here since I didn't want to drive down to OC to get kicking crab/boiling crab. I got the shrimp with the medley seasoning in medium. It was good and has all the right flavors for those kicking crab cravings but it wasn't as great. It definitely does get the job done however. The view from my table was gorgeous though. I'm going to come back here whenever I have these cravings again!

Everybody has their favorites but the fact that I don't have to wait an hour to eat PLUS live instead of frozen makes this place better than Boiling Crab. Furthermore, the service hear is eons better than the sassy servers at BC. Although I'm accustomed to hitting the Korean joints downstairs, I have begun to think the quality is for real here and the ding on my wallet is much lighter at this joint. Join the "revolution" and start coming here..it'll be worth it!

This place is my go to shrimp place because I'm from the South Bay. I can't drive all the way Boiling crab but I wish they could have a branch too in the Torrance/Redondo area. I deeply believe the quality of the Shrimp Lover is practically the same with Boiling Crab but with lesser lines. Sometimes it gets slow and lonely though which gives me some concern on the freshness of the seafood. My wife and I come to this place twice a month. The sauces for the shrimp is phenomenal.

It was okay, nothing special about it. My bf and I walked in and there was only two tables being used and the owner or whoever just looked at us and carried on with whatever and we just stood there waiting to be seated. The food did come out pretty quick but it wasn't as good or better than boiling crab.. I'd rather wait for really good food.

Horrible service. Took 40 mins to get my food and was the wrong order and took and 40 mins to get my right order. When the bill came they tried to charge me for the wrong order I sent back wtf. Also only had my water filled up twice as the waitress just walked past me and my friends so I guess it's safe to say I will never go back.

This place is a great place if you're craving for something like boiling crab! Personally I like it a lot more than boiling crab. 1. You don't have to wait for 2 hrs just to get your fix. 2. The variety of flavors the shrimp come in is amazing! They have the infamous garlic butter, curry, lemon pepper, & the medley which is a mix of all the flavors. 3. If you're eating with someone who doesn't want shrimp, they have Thai food as well. The only bad thing I have to say about this place is they put like 2 potatoes even if you don't ask for it to make it one pound. The flavor of the shrimp tastes so fresh, and you can see the bits of garlic which I love so much! There's a hint of sweetness to it as well that sets it aside from boiling crab. Boiling crab is good, but the spicy flavor overpowers any other hidden flavor. I will definitely be coming here a lot!

I got the shrimp mixed medley medium spicy. I thought it was good. But take note I was super hungry. Cajun fries were really good. Better than the ones at boiling crab. Really good view of the pier. Overall decent lunch nd with good service. Granted there was only 2 other parties there. But overall good experience

This place is for people who know nothing about seafood. Everything (shellfish) was overcooked and rubbery. Nothing was fresh. The shellfish was obviously factory precooked, frozen and packaged for mass consumption. Think Red Lobster, Joe's Crab Shack, Boiling Crab, etc. I believe they all get their ingredients from the same corporate manufacturer/distributor. They simply smother everything in sauce to cover up the taste of poor quality shellfish. They didn't even bother to toss the shellfish in the sauce; simply poured it over. There were plain, boiled mussels, shrimp, crawfish, etc. floating on top of red goop. Terrible! The worst part is what they charge for this crap!

I ordered delivery: Food came in a timely manner. The driver forgot my spirit but brought me back 2. Very nice Seafood Combo Mild all their seasonings except the Indian. It was pretty spicy but tolerable. The seasoning had a bit of a sweet taste like most Thai dishes. It was good but I don't like my good sweet. Good thing it was on the shell of the fish the actual meat was tasty not so sweet. The corn & potatoes were yummy. Again I'm not a fan of sweets so I'm sure if it wasn't salt & spices it would have been perfect for me. I like their combination of herbs & spices. I taste the difference between them and boiling crab. I paid 39.99 I believe it was a good deal. Good bang for your buck. Garlic bread was yummy Catfish & Cajun fries were decent. Cajun fries were probably the frozen kind not fresh cut but it was good. Cat fish pieces were thin pieces probably frozen too but not bad. If you have someone who doesn't eat she'll fish this would be okay. It's not something I would crave or order again. Also the price isn't worth it to me. Coconut mango was so good not enough & also pricey. I wouldn't order it again it's not worth the price but it was good. You don't get any extra sauce but I tarter sauce if you order the catfish I would go back again for the seafood combo next time I'll ask to try the sauces so I don't get the one that's sweet. Like I said the sauce was good but not something I would prefer.

Delicious. Fairly cheap. Incredibly location. Some Yelpers seem to think the flavors don't rival other Cajun seafood places... I don't know about that, but Alhambra and Koreatown don't give you a sunset view. Dear Wife and I each got a lb of shrimp+potatoes and corn. Seemed like a lot more than a pound each, but who's complaining?? I never got really good at peeling the shrimp. I DID get really good at soaking up all that spicy/garlicky goodness with the garlic bread.

A hidden culinary gem with view over the Redondo Pier , 10 times better tasting Shrimps a la Nouvelle Orleans compared to overpriced Killer Shrimp in Hermosa.

Walked by this place and it smelled amazing. My friends and I decided to try it out. We stood at the hostess stand for over 15 min, and no one ever greeted us. Finally my friend found a server and told him we wanted to place an takeout order. The server's response, "When we're ready for you, we will take your order." What happened to greeting your customer?? We decided to leave b/c this place clearly didn't want our business. This place only gets 1 star b/c I can not give zero stars. Horrible customer service!!

Great service, great food. Love the garlic butter and seafood combo bowls! The seafood is reasonably priced at $11-30/ lb depending on what you order, however the Thai dishes (pad Thai, pad see ew etc.) are veryyyy reasonably priced under $10 I highly recommend the Pad see ew, my family orders 2 when we come. It's so good!

Came here for dinner last night. It was packed. We signed in and waited for a table to open up. The food was great! Im not into sea food that much but I love their fried shrimp! Their cajun fries are delicious!!! I had a really good experience eating here. The staff was as friendly as they could be even though they were overwhelmed by large crowds constantly coming in the door. When the bill came we were pleasantly surprised at how low it was. I got to sit next to the window and enjoy my view. I had a good time here. Good spot, good view, good prices, good food!!!

I love this place. My mom and I were looking for a good place to eat and when the pier was packed we went to the shrimp love. Let me say I've never been to the boiling crab and I have been craving it since i heard from it and this place has it. This place is really good we got the shrimp bag with original Louisiana seasoning and spicy with a piece of corn and potato(the potato comes with it though). I was completely satisfied i will definitely be coming here again! The desserts are really good too!

I was addicted to their small seafood combo with medley flavor a little while ago and I used to go there every week! They use so much garlic so I always got an upset stomach after I ate there but I didn't really care lol Iast time I went there I asked them to use less garlic and it was just perfect! My breath still stank after the meal but oh well it was really good and my stomach was working totally fine this time. When it's crowded you may have to wait for a good 40-50 mins until you get your order so come early if you don't wanna wait.

I must start by saying that this place has very good food. I like the variety and the prices are very fair for what you get. They have things that a lot of other seafood places don't, and the Thai style is a bit different from other places here on the pier. The food is what earned the two stars, but Shrimp Lover falls short of five stars for the following, POOR SERVICE! No greeter at the front reception area, waiter and waitress never once refilled our drinks. Keep in mind our party of six came in here on a hot August day after walking around the pier several hours, So we were thirsty. On three separate occasions we had to actually go across the room and serve our refills at the waitress station. The waiter forgot to bring one of our entrees till the very end when we asked where it was and got upset when we said just cancel it from the bill as we are all done eating already. At one point the waiter brought a basket of bread to us and after my friend and I grabbed a piece, the waiter picked up the basket again saying, "oh my mistake, this is for other table", he then proceeded to try and grab my slice of bread out of my hand, I pulled away so he couldn't get it! So after he serves us the bread, we put our hands in the basket and take some, he takes the bread to the two ladies at the table next to us! I couldn't believe it! They also refused to do separate checks, the lady that sat us at our table said they would, but when the check came they didn't, of course we were a party of six and parties of six or more has a mandatory added "gratuity". It seems service is the main issue here, again, the food was great. We got giant crab legs, fried shrimp, oysters on the half shell, fries, fried clams.... All were fresh and tasty, especially the fries, they have a spicy seasoning salt on them that is excellent!

I come to this restaurant when I'm in dire need of my boiling crab fix, but without having to drive all the way to Garden Grove. Location is great, just right on the pier in Redondo. They have a very vast range of food. So if you're not in the mood for some fun in a bag, you can also pick from a selection of Thai entrees and soups. The shrimps are a good size and you can tell that they're fresh. Nothing compares to boiling crab sauce, but there's definitely no complaints about their sauce. The only gripe that I have about this place is the actuality of customers getting a one pound bag. Compared to boiling crab it just doesn't seem even close to a pound. I don't know if it's because they potatoes as fillers or what.

There's a reason the Boiling Crab has a long wait. The people who worked there only spoke to us when they took our order....as soon as we were about to walk out for waiting 20 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge that we were waiting on a server. We got our food and they never came back. No drink refill. No check up. Nothing. The food was ok...fries were good but crab legs were pretty small. Just ok. They sure did come quick over quickly to collect our payment, though, I'll never be back.

Good food, I like that its not overly salty you can add more but you can never take it out. I like that its a cute family business. The sauce(the one with all of them) is really good. The butter sauce is a little too bland for me. The heat is right on, I ordered medium and it was perfect. It had a kick to it but not overbearing. The place is nice and clean and well kept. Good food for decent prices. Kick back place with a casual vibe. It's kid and family friendly. I had my baby with me and everything went well.

The service here is terrible! I'm a server... So I have a lot more patience and understanding for restaurants. I understand that it takes patience to wait for food, but to wait an hour for a shrimp bucket and an order of snow crab? That's a little insane. Also considering my brother who was with us finished his pad see ew before we had even retrieved our orders. So he had to wait another 20 minutes for us to eat. We arrived at around 6:45 and didn't get sat until 7:15. Understandable wait time. But our table wasn't fully prepped and our server didn't tend to us for another 10 minutes. We then ordered at 7:30 (roughly). Got our food at 8:30. I gave two stars because the food is delicious, but not worth the hour wait. We had dessert as well which was also delicious. But as a server, customer service is really important. I feel that every parties' meals should come out at once, not one at a time so that you're all eating at different times. Probably won't be coming back - although my mother loved it, she will be.

This place is my favorite place ever! Sam, the owner rocks and the service is great. In my opinion this place is better that boiling crab. The Golden pompano is really good and the crab rice. The oysters are always fresh and the crayfish is always terrific.

After many trips to the 405S. to Garden Groove and to wait in 2 hour long lines, we found a very close place with the same great taste if not better then Boiling Crab, and no long lines. Food was great and service great.. we will be here many more times thank you Shrimp Lover....

Just when you thought there is no place like Boiling Crab... THIS PLACE GAVE ME L I F E !!! I am officially a Shrimp Lover LOVER!! We ordered a couple pounds of shrimp and some Cajun fries. The shrimp came in bag that shows that it is freshly steamed. That bag came in a bucket that kept it sitting high. The shrimp were PLUMP and delicious. I referred to them as happy shrimp and the military shrimp. Lol they literally were of perfect size and texture. The spice was completely on point. I got the equivalent of the whole shabang and it was twenty times more flavorful than BC. I was a boiling crab FANATIC, but they are really far from my home. This place is located at the Redondo Beach Pier. 5 Stars.

Just came home from eating at THE BOILING SHRIMP for my brother's birthday. It was our first time going there and we weren't really expecting much since we compare everything with THE BOILING CRAB. what we ate: (everything we ordered was THE MEDLEY & MILD) dungeness crab : FRESH & LIVE (not like the boiling crab) but it was YUMMY! i wish we ordered more but the sauce that came with it was amazing! love the garlic and spice! 2lb. shrimp: great flavor. the weird thing about it was the fact that the size of the shrimp was either small or big and juicy but overall it had a good flavor. 1lb clams: great flavor but pretty small. fried catfish: it was eh okay but i like how it came with a basket of cajun fries. the cajun fries were okay. (all the orders came with potatoes which was pretty cool) Service was really excellent. Most of the waitresses were really nice and attentive especially Jaja. She made our visit great and she was really sweet! It was fun writing on their wooden boards and the great thing was i told them it was my little brother's birthday and they sang to him and brought him a nice scoop of coconut ice cream. The decor is somewhat like Joe's Crab Shack. Very themed and towards the end of our meal they snapped a picture of us and said they were going to post it on the wall. WOOOT which im really excited about. The view is great you can see all of Redondo Beach Pier. Overall great restaurant if you don't want to drive all the way to BC.

To keep it simple.. Worst customer service. No one greets you.no one tells you you have to write your name on a list. Finally get seated after waiting 20-25 minutes we order take another 20 minutes for the food. Food is ok I still prefer Boiling Crab!! After they serve you no one stops by to see if you need anything. Boiling Crab is better on service and Definitely food!!!

This place was amazing!!! The flavor was amazing in the shrimp and muscles. We bought three bags of shrimp, one bag of muscles, one plate of chow mein, five cups of rice, five corn on the cob, and very body had alcohol ....every one in my party couldn't eat any more it was more than enough food for $80 and that's not using the yelp 20% off coupon code. The only thing that we would suggest is for them to buy another mop.....the staff started mopping while we were eating and it smelled disgusting at first I thought it was the shrimp that was bad but when I took a glance it was the mop.....not enough to throw me out of there but not a pleasant smell.

I can't complain about their food. To me it's as good or maybe better than Boiling Crab. They offer fried fish, shrimp and oysters. They also offer Thai food which is not good at all. Ordered Thai BBQ, chicken did not taste like I've had before. No taste and no BBQ taste. Pad See Ew was too watery or oily. I recommend to stay away from their Thai food, stick with their Seafood. The four star is only for the seafood they serve.

Came here with three other friends ... I didn't really know where The Boiling Shrimp was so I was walking around for a minute looking for it. Luckily I walked in the right direction. It's near Quality Seafood but on the fourth floor towards the back. When we get to the restaurant we were seated right away. There were about three or four other tables filled with customers in the restaurant. I liked that you didn't have to wait too long to eat here. Looking over the menu, I decided to order the pound of shrimp, corn, and sausage. We also get catfish with seasoned fries, and garlic bread. Everyone's orders came out at different times.. but that was fine since it gave us a chance to steal the seasoned fries from one of our friends. The fries were good! Well made, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. When I got my order, it was pretty hot. Good! I bit down on one of the sausages and was let down. I had some of the corn and was happy with that. On to the shrimp, it was okay. I enjoyed eating it and dipping it back in the garlic butter with lemon pepper sauce. It was just slightly overcooked. Either that or the shrimp was old. But I enjoyed my meal anyway, and finished all of the shrimp. I gave all of the sausage to someone else. I'd probably come back but not any time soon. BTW, if you check in on yelp, you get a free soda.

I got reeled in to this place just cause of it's name cause I'm a shrimp fanatic !! We were the first ones in there so we got a perfect view of the ocean !! We ordered sweet potato fries [amazing], a pound of medley shrimp with all the herbs && spices combined [delicious], && pad see ew . I'm also a huge thai fan but for some reason this plate was not that great . I wish I wrote this review the day we went so I could be more descriptive about it but the pad see ew just wasn't good so minus one star for that . I do love the fact that they have 3 different locations - can't wait to go back for more =]

Great food, great service! And best of all, no wait! I can't imagine waiting 60-90 minutes at Boiling Crab when there's a place like this, right on the beach, with a great view of the surf to boot. We came here for an early father's day celebration and it was a great choice. Caution: not for the health-conscious folks out there. Be ready to get dirty and oh so satisfied! We tried the shrimp (of course!), mussels and crab baskets. We're not into the smoke-out-of-your-ears hot so we mainly got the mild sauce and one order of medium. The medium sauce is hot enough for us. I don't understand the complaints of bad customer service. The ladies were just simply nice! We're already planning our next trip back :-)

I will never go back go the place. The food was ok but the service was HORRIBLE. It was so hot in there, we were fanning ourselves with the menus, the waitress said they shut off the AC and opened the windows, there are hardly any windows that opened! Now the waitress was rude. She took our drink order after 10minutes of being seated, our food came out one at a time... We had a party of 10. Some of our party got their food really late and She never came to refill our drinks. She took almost 20 minutes to return our cards and cash (I had to ask her to bring us back our bill) I automatically knew I wasn't going to tip her, but they added gratuity which pisses me off. Your service sucks, it's hot in the restaurant which made it hard to enjoy our food and then you're going to add your own tip? I should determine how much tip to give. I will never go back here.

Fresh crawfish. Tasty medley sauce. Garlic bread is great to dip with the sauce and place a crawfish bite on. Not kickin crab but a pretty good local substitute. And there's no wait !

Came here with mom and the family for a late Mother's Day celebration May 2013, when the place was known as "The Boiling Shrimp." This place is a "Thai version" of the more famous and heavily-crowded Boiling Crab. Their marinade tastes sweeter and so do their Cajun-style fries. They use fresh herbs (i.e. basil, etc.) in their marinade(s) and it shows. The deep fried catfish filets tasted of the frozen variety, but was palatable nonetheless. I wish they provided lemons and/or limes for as much seafood we were eating. Make sure to get their garlic bread which is a SPECTACULAR pair with shellfish!! Service was great. Recommended and will return in the future.

4 stars for quality of food and service This place is a bit pricier than some of the similar type restaurants you may find in OC, but I think it's totally worth it. Service This location is quite large with ample seating. Every time I have been here (which has been a weekday), there has been no wait. Service has always beenquick and prompt and my drink glass was never empty. The gal was even nice enough to remind us that there is a discount if you check-in! Food I personally, like the seasonings here much more than any similar location I have been too (e.g. Boiling Crab). I've had the mild all seasoning and mild no seasoning, both are good. My friends have gotten the med all seasoning which they really like, but have warned that it has a pretty good kick for being medium. I also love the garlic butter option which I get with snow crab. Now speaking about crab, the quality and quantity has always been good. The only downside is they order by the pound, no half sizes that I am aware of. PS - don't forget to pay for parking at the meter machine or you will definitely get a ticket. Parking rates are $1.50 per hour on weekdays, not sure if there is a price hike for weekends.

When we entered the restaurant, there wasn't a host/hostess to greet us. However, we got seated shortly after. My boyfriend and I shared the fried calamari, king crab legs, and shrimp (the medley and mild). Overall, the sauce was good (I still like The Boiling Crab and The Shack's sauce a little better). The crab legs were fresh and yummy. We had to flag different people down to get our check.

I have eaten here a dozen times. The food is great! Definitely almost a 4.5 Star place BUT.. Here is the thing about this place. One thing only that is truly making it hard for me to give it 5 stars. (and anything more then 2-3 stars by other yelpers) Customer reception/service is horrible. Why? Here is why. When you walk in. More then half the time there is nobody to great you. Absolutly nobody. Especially if its busy. Then you are SOL and have to find the little notebook thing with names on it and sign in with how big your group is and the time you signed in. Then you have to moniter it so people don't take the book and try to scratch other peoples names off just so they look like it's their turn next. (Sad, but it's happend) So Just Hire more staff you say? Yeah. Tell that to the Owner. I'm not sure why he just doesn't do it and hire more help. He needs it. The place on some nights gets rediculous busy. But regardless. I Personally have grown to accept that it will be bad on busy Fri/Sat nights so I avoid trying to eat in and call or order online and enjoy it at home. The Food is Great and clean and fresh and flavorful! Don't let the lack of customer service/reception discourage you. Now to the food Review. This place is Thai..... Just a little fact. The food is all delicious and sweet and basil and garlic infused with small hints of indian spice. -Fried Shrimp basket is amazing! Butterflied Shrimp battered and fried, served with a side of this sweet honey like sauce is just great! I recommend it to anyone who goes to try it as an appatizzer while your waiting for the main dish! -The Soup... Tom Yum Goong.. Absolutly fresh and yummy! My mother gets this everytime we go. It is a light and refreshing basil ginger soup seafood and just keeps you wanting more when its finished. -Cajun Fries are great. They complement the food well when your elbow deep in shells. -Shrimp,King Crab, Crawfish, Lobster....All have great size and great quality. Crawfish is big sometimes but average medium size and are great especially when it's craw season here in the US. So I have grouped these together. Since I only get them one way. Medley Sauce, Mild. Everytime. its just a great over all flavor that gives you that lime and garlic kick with a hint of indian spices. It is in no way compared to anything I have ever had before. (cough.. BC) It is just down right succulant. When we order the sides of corn and potatoes I make sure they put it in the bag with the seafood that way they soak up the sauce for extra flavor. When the customer service is on point and they focus on you. They will treat you very well and take care of you. Making sure that your drinks are full and if you need anything everytime they pass by. All in all. A great Place! If you want to try it for the first time. Don't go on a busy friday/sat night. Go earlier in the day or in the middle of a week when its slightly slow and they will take very good care of you. I guarantee it. Because thats what i do. ;) Or if you want all the goodness without the problem of service. Call in your order, or do it online and enjoy it at home without the worry of people looking at you like your crazy when your face and arms are covered in the yummy sauce. LOL PS: They are great to go to on a birthday! They will sing and dance and wear funny hats and such. It just Fun! (oh, it was on a weekday dinner) Enjoy!

I've been to a few seafood-in-a bag spots, but this is my fave so far. The prices are a little high, but you get a view and their seasoning is the best! We ordered the mild medley w/ shrimp and king crab legs. SO GOOD! If you are in the area go and try it.

Oh where do I start...... 1) Parking: There's no easy parking. I placed a phone order for pick up since my husband was out of town and wanted to watch my chick flicks. There's no quick 15 minute parking spots for you to park, run in, pick up your food and get out. Instead, you have to look for parking and pay the meter. On the weekends, parking is horrible and will cost $2 an hour with no option to select only 15 minutes. BOOO!!!! So you have to pay the 1 hour minimum so you can run in and get your food. 2) Service: Service is HORRIBLE here. Don't expect your glass of water to be refilled without asking. From the moment you enter the restaurant to the moment you leave, service is just not their strong point and it doesn't seem like they care either because I've been there a few times now and it's the same each time. Perhaps they need to hire additional servers? You first walk into the restaurant and there's a sign that says "Please wait to be seated" so you wait.. and wait... and wait... then finally someone acknowledges you and tells you to write your name on the waiting list even though there's empty tables around. Then you wait again just to be seated at one of the empty tables. Something just doesn't make sense. There's one staff member there that was very pleasant. He wasn't our normal waiter/ waitress but he brought our food with a smile and asked if there was anything else that we needed. He's a taller gentlemen and on the skinnier side. He was our only hope for some kind of decent service. 3) Food: Now for a little positive light to this review of mine. The food is good... of course it's not Boiling Crab or Kicking Crab but each place has their own version of cajun and I'm ok with that. I've had the shrimp, medley, mild with corn & sausage on all of my visits and absolutely love it. I'm not a crawfish kinda girl so I stick with the shrimp. I've ordered it medium before and it was just toooo spicy for me so mild is just perfect. Ok.. that's my rant for the day! Improve on your service Shrimp Lover!! I think you'll find your customers a tad bit happier if you do!

Very tasty Louisiana, garlic and melted butter sauce. Came in on a Monday so there was no wait time but I heard it could get crazy on the weekends. Don't expect fast and friendly service because they are under-staffed, i dont know if only because it was a slow day for them supposedly. Overall, I enjoyed my dinner with friends.

Definitely competes with Boiling Crab, if not better than it. I love that I can get peeled shrimp, and the fact that they have Thai dishes as well. The cajun fries aren't very good, and that's probably the only negative thing I would have to say about this place. No two hour wait, usually only like 10 mins or less. The crab here is delicious and cooked to perfection. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place over any other cajun seafood restaurant.

We came here on a Tuesday and was able to catch the beautiful sunset right before dinner. The service is quick, and the staff was pretty friendly. I had the fresh coconut, and it was so refreshing, especially after playing volleyball and biking all afternoon. We also had the garlic bread, and that was soooooo good! we got a pound of shrimp ($10.99/lb) with the garlic butter sauce and a pound of snow crab legs ($21.99/1.2lb) with the medley sauce. Both of the sauces were great, and it was a lot of food for the two of us. We also had a gluten-free request in our party, and they were very accommodating to his dietary needs. The prices are a bit more expensive than boiling crab and other equivalents, but if you want to stay in South Bay and get some great seafood, this would be a great place to go!

I've been coming here for a year and it never disappoints! The view is what makes me come back to this location. I've been to the one in melrose and it sure wasn't the same. The shrimp wasn't cooked all the way and the place looked dirty. Drive a little bit further or if you're nearby , this location will make you leave satisfied and content. I love the boiling shrimp /the shrimp lover , for those who knew this place before it changed it's name

  • Lisa S.

This cannot be truly compared to Boiling Crab, so it shouldn't be. The corn is overcooked and has no flavor. Also, the seafood has been boiled separately and merely thrown into the bag of flavoring. Nothing is cooked together, so there is no marriage of flavors. I'm not sure if the crab I ate was fresh, because the shell was very soft and the meat inside was a bit dry. However, I loved the mixed sauce. It reminded me of Thai red curry, and it went great with the crab. Once in the sauce, I forgot that it was dry. This doesn't remedy the problem, exactly, but I ended up enjoying my meal.

We ended up here because we didnt want to drive to The boiling Crab.... So I have to say here is Terrible service. They did not have a hostess at the door to greet us." we waited and standed in line behind another group that has been there 20 min before us. They did not even acknowledge us. The people in front left and we ended up leaving as well. so unfortunatly we did not get to try the food all i can review is the service. so sad. I guess from now on It will always be Boiling Crab I will sacrifice the drive well worth it.

I swear, my boyfriend and I are here at least once every 2 weeks. We love it! I'm happy that there's a cajun seafood place close to home so I don't have to drive all the way to OC for my cravings. The prices per pound is a couple bucks higher but I guess that makes up for the gas we're not guzzling away. But my bf and I really do love the shrimp's cajun sauce here. We each get 1 pound of the medley (combination of all the flavors) with medium spice and cajun fries. My bf prefers this sauce over Boiling Crab because it's not as salty or greasy. The shrimps are a good size, the medium is actually pretty spicy which we like, and the cajun fries are so yummy especially when dipped in the cajun sauce *drool. I've also tried their catfish and calamari which are good but nothing too special. My bf tried their west coast wings and happily said they were "pretty good". They also offer Thai dishes if you or someone in your party doesn't like seafood or the concept of getting dirty... but I haven't tried any of those dishes (yet). The shrimp and fries are obviously the star here HAHA As for service, always a 2 thumbs up! The servers are attentive, accommodating, and never seem like they don't want to do something for the customers :) Yay for The Shrimp Lover!

The Boiling Shrimp is definitely not Boiling Crab, but it's not bad either. I apologize that I will always be comparing this place to Boiling Shrimp. The spiciness level of the shrimp was not strong enough. My sister and I ordered a medium-spicy level. It tasted mild. I felt no heat on my tongue. My sister and friends tell me that I have dead taste buds since I love spicy food so much, but even my sister, who is extremely weak sauce with spicy foods, confirmed that our shrimp was just not spicy. However, the shrimp was flavorful (although not as flavorful as Boiling Crab) and the amount we got was not bad at all, considering that i shared just one pound with my sister. The potatoes were beautifully tender and the fries were not bad. All in all, these place was decent and worth checking out at least once. Give it a go

This place was pretty good for my 1st time here. Service was good and kept out cups full and the food came out at a reasonable time for a large group. I also like the decorations they put up around the place. I am sure the view would be better if I could see out but maybe next time.

Amazing food cheap in price... Service communication was poor but no big deal. I can't wait to go back and get the pad see ew. The chicken plate was a 10 rib plate was also good and the spumoni ice cream was so good served with sprinkles around it with a sweat raspberry sauce around it whipped cream decorated with a mint leaf and two yummy frozen blackberrys.

Of course any place like this will get compared to Boiling Crab. For me Shrimp Lovers is good as well. Don't expect for the food to be as good as Boiling Crab though it's a notch below. However there are some perks here. The times that I have come, this place is not busy and there aren't the long wait times. Definitely a good thing. The service is always good, fast, and friendly. No complaints there. Ordered the shrimp today with the mild flavor and garlic butter seasoning, corn and potatoes. My order was good but not great. The seasoning seemed a tad greasy. I actually wanted a pound of crawfish but they are out of season and I would have had to be served frozen ones. That's a big NO so I went with the shrimp instead. They have a full bar and great drink prices. The view is awesome and stares at the blue Pacific and Redondo Pier. All in all the place is good. Nice place to come if you can't get to BoilingCrab.

And just when I thought after 2 lbs of Garlic Butter medium spiced shrimp I'd be sick of seafood... I was even more reeled in. The first time I went here was on a weekend, and there were plenty of people. But we were seated immediately, and I was thrilled to be seated by the big bay windows with the pier view. The last time I went was on a weekday, and the place was super empty. Of course, we had to sit by the bay windows -- I love me some ocean view. Anyway, I have nothing else to compare this to since I've never actually tried the other joints that are similar (like Boiling Crab, etc). But to me, it's inexpensive. 2 lbs of shrimp amounted up to around $22, and 2 lbs for me is more than enough lol. You can choose whatever spice you like (it's on the menu) and the level of spice. I chose Garlic Butter (who doesn't like garlic?), and medium spice. Maybe it's just me, but medium spice is already pretty spicy. But it must also be from the garlic, not sure. We also got the Dungeness crab (the price usually varies). This is a nice place to get your seafood fix with a group of people. Unless you like shrimp tasting smooches and still maintain your poise while removing shells off of shrimps, I wouldn't recommend this for a first date, because it gets messy lol.

Ate hear yesterday and I must say not only was the food good, but the customer service was great. The sauce was not like Boiling Crab, however, it was pretty good. It could have been a bit more flavorful but I'm not complaining because there was no wait. The fried catfish was delicious and fried to perfection. Next time I'm at the pier, I will definitely return.

Been here a few times, always before 12pm. Which may explain why there arent many people. The price is great, considering the location (11.99/lb). The shrimp come in bags that are held in little buckets. The shrimp is always piping hot and full of flavor. The only time I wasnt satisfied was when I tried the gralic butter, barely tasted the bitter. Cant go wrong with the medley! Service is great. They give off a appreciative inviting vibe. Last time the waiter put the bib on for us, it was a nice gesture, but made us feel VERY young :P. Overall, it isnt Boiling Crab good. Though, it's good for those who live in the South Bay and dont want to drive to Korean Town for some tasty shrimp. I gave them an extra star because of the awesome ocean view. Oh! Dont forget the cajun fries! :)

LOVE this place! If you live in the Southbay and want great flavor similar to The Boiling Crab (minus the drive to DTLA and horrible wait), this is your spot! Never a wait, great service, delicious food, great prices, all with a lovely view of the ocean and the Redondo Pier. I love this place so much!

Food was great, service was minimal, prices were way too high. I know, I know, it's crab right! I ordered a pound of shrimp with the medley seasoning(my fav. seasoning) and a crab. My bill was 75$! Now I know what I got myself into, so I'm not letting the price alter the score. Just wasn't as full as I would have liked for the price, the food was great. All in all, try for yourself!

So we have gone back to the shrimp lover a few times now and got to check it out in the afternoon and the views are great. Went to the boiling crab a few weeks ago in Orange County, and it's easier to go to the shrimp lover with less gas money!

My new fave place for when I crave peel-n-eat seafood! My other fave food is Thai so this place is the perfect blend. For those who expect the 'real' Cajun seafood boil this is that with a Thai twist. With that expectation set, you will be pleasantly surprised with the the quality and value your getting. Went on a Sun night and were promptly seated. Staff was friendly and service was quick. For 2, we had the $35 combo bag (mussels, clams, 1 king crab, 1/2 dungeness, shrimp, corn, red taters, andouille sausage) and 2 white rices. Also, enjoyed the $15 bucket o' 6 beers. We were famished eaters and we left stuffed! Highly recommend if you are looking to eat in a casual, family and group friendly atmosphere with a great view of the Redondo Pier and ocean.

2.5 Terrible service. They did not have a host at the door to greet us. I had to take my own initiative and look for somebody and also to look for the notebook to put our names down. There was no one in line when we got there... About 25 or so minutes later they finally called us. So much more people were waiting by that time. So here goes... The shrimp was not so bad. But the crab legs were not fresh. And was difficult to crack because it was way too soft. So they lost points from us. The waitress kept walking pass us and took another 30 mins to take our orders. The food took forever and when we ordered more garlic bread... It didn't even come and we were already finished dining. By the time we asked for the check this other lady came and gave us out bread and said it was too late to cancel our order? Wait ... what?!? Anyway after arguing... They took it off the bill. Not a great experience. Sorry guys!

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Right? Not only is Boiling Crab not broke it is going strong so I guess that gives Boiling Shrimp an incentive to shamelessly copy their business model. They copied the name, the menu, the look of the food and the packaging of their to go orders. No one's gonna accuse Boiling Shrimp of being original. However, their food is pretty good... yeah, like Boiling Crab and since Boiling Crab decided to ignore us folks here in the So Bay, I am gonna thank Boiling Crab for saving me a ton of driving and a ton of waiting to have good seafood. Next Time? I liked the medley flavor shrimp so I am gonna have some more of that and maybe I'll try their crab.

We came in to eat at 2:30PM when the restaurant was fairly empty. We were seated by a window overlooking the pier. The service was great! Both the waitress and the cook came out to check on us numerous times throughout our meal. The waitress refilled our drinks at least three times and the cook taught me a snow crab leg cracking trick. The decor of the place is really cute and festive and the location of the restaurant is unbeatable!! The cajun fries were very crispy and seasoned, the boyfriend's thai food was decent (he's a picky eater, so he wasn't thrilled with the sauce) and I really enjoyed my snow crab leg bag with corn. The cost for 1.3lbs of snow crab legs was $23. I ordered them with a sauce medley and medium spice, which was MUCH spicier than I expected. I cried while I ate them, but the experience was totally worth it! Can't wait to try to king crab legs and the pad thai next time!

Great food come here for some fresh seafood and fries its amazing. Don't ask for a fork go one mouthful at a time and be sure to wear a bib cause its messy. And be sure to keep wiping your mouth

Had my first experience brought home to me! They deliver! They bring you the bibs and a sheet of paper to put down on your table. Not a bad idea to have seafood delivered to the house! I got two pounds of shrimp in the medley seasoning and the spiciest flavor possible. My boyfriend loved how spicy it was and I was tearing dropping sweat and snot all over. I can tell the seasoning was still good though! Next time I won't be getting the max spicy. I'd highly recommend a mild so you can actually enjoy your food! Don't get me wrong this place was great just too spicy for me! My boyfriend loved it! I gave this place 4 stars because there's been a couple other places I been to (the boiling crab and claws) and I think claws is better. However when I'm in redondo beach and not in the oc i would definitely come here!

Overall the food was tasty, however plan on being there a while. Service was painfully slow, as was the prep, and paying. Prices were high, but considering the location, I guess it makes sense. We tried the king crab, which is always a winner. You might want to pass on the added sausage, I think we may have ended up with a 1/4 or 1/3 of a sausage tops. The fries and seasonings were both spot on, and surprisingly, the spicy was actually spicy. If you live in the south bay and don't want to drive to the OC for the boiling crab, then this will get you what you need. Overall the place is clean, with good food and a staff that was physically present.

If I could give less than 1 star, I would. Husband and I decided to try this place for the first time after he got out of class for date night. Their website says they close at 10. We got their at 9:25. A gentleman tell us that they close at 930. I told him that it's not 9:30. He proceeds to tell us that the kitchen is closed . I explained to him that the website doesn't state that the last seating is at 930 (which we were on time for) . We were so irritated! It wasn't even 930 so how is the kitchen closed and already cleaned? He just put his hands up and said sorry. Ugh! Poor service! I work at a restaurant and we take customers until closing. My husband and I WONT be returing here again. Next time we'll just suck it up and drive to garden grove and eat at THE BOILING CRAB where the service is excellent and the food is amazing!

Only the bag stuff is good Friday night, 6pm, 4 tables being served... Ordered 2 lbs shrimp, king crab, corn, sausage, sodas at med spice and all the seasonings. Total $55. Yummy, yummy, and I sure needed a bath later on. Wish I would have ordered bread too, cause my tummy needed something to soak up all the goodness. Lots and lots of garlic. Even have a little bit left over for tomorrow. My 7 yr old loved the shrimp, but had me take the heads and skin off. No waiting, short drive and great food make this well worth going back. VISIT #2 -------------- DOWNGRADING... Empty place again. Ordered Grilled Salmon & Fried Catfish. The Salmon was way overcooked. It was obvious to anybody that has cooked before. Why would you even give this to a customer unless you are totally clueless? The catfish were 1/4 inch fillets, with 1/4 inch of corn meal breading. All I could taste was the breading, something that a bottle of ketchup fixed. Service was poor, not due to effort, but due to lack of understanding of the English language. BOTTOM LINE Don't order anything other than the bagged items, and be ready to point to what you want. Also, don't ask for any variances, because the kitchen & waitresses can't handle it. Based upon the two experiences I'm moving the 4 stars down to 2. Good luck to you.

This is a fantastic place, great service, great food, very reasonable priced, They are so considerate, I have dined at this location at least a dozen times over the past two years of my travels to LAX from Dallas, I actually forgot they do NOT take AMEX one night and the owner / manager insisted I just pay next time and leave, I thought this is something you may find in small town America but not in a big City, I was able to pay him using my paypal account online with my phone, but they have certainly earned a faithful patron for as long as I am traveling back and forth to LAX, someday I will make my last trip and this is the place I will call my last dinner while in SoCal, Thank you Shrimp Lover, Your Cajun spice Crab Leg is my favorite, your specials are always priced great.

Not really a fan of seafood but the food we tasted here was a delight . Even our kids (10-12 years old) had so much fun eating here. The menu is a combination of Thai and Creole food which makes it so unique! I hope there would be more choices for soups, though . Otherwise , it was a great experience for us first timers here!

Been here several times, almost every month. Very bad customer service today. We couldn't even get our preferred table. The rice was served 30 minutes after all the food was almost gone. The manager was so mean & panicked when there were a lot of customers coming in. Discouraged!

The food here is fantastic it's a mix of Thai with a New Orleans twist . Now when you come here don't be afraid to eat with your hands in fact you are not getting utensils or plates you eat here with your hands!! Ask for the medley spice its big mixture bowl with everything from the Sea its absolutely delicious!! It's a perfect blend of spices, bay leaves, garlic & and chili peppers it's unbelievable!y GOOD!! Ok you're going to want to lick your fingers as a matter of fact you won't regret it if you do!! Another delicious dish is the fried basket seafood OMG so good!! FYI skip the coke and ask for a Thai beer which goes well with any of their dishes. The atmosphere is very family oriented but you can also watch a game!!People please don't be embarrassed to wear the bid because you're going to get dirty!! I learned this the hard way. Now to end your meal have the coconut mango dessert!! OMG the Coconut mango ice cream it's like no other seriously someone went to heaven brought back a piece of it and they called it coconut mango ice cream! I swear I want to marry it!! Shut the front door the service is exceptional like no other really people!!

It's hard to find decent crawfish. It's hard to find a place that just brings out the bucket, some paper towels and cold beer. For those of you not used to the Southern way of eating crab, shrimp, crawfish, etc., this is how we do it. I'm sure the rest of the menu is wonderful. But I stick to the boiled shrimp and boiled crawfish. It's amazing!

Just had some very fresh oysters & Delicious New Zealand green lipped mussels! I also tried the Pad Thai (Shrimp) which was very good also. Service was good and fast - it was also very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

OK this joint is freaky weird. It reminds me of a seafood restaurant in Hawaii in a funky neighborhood with Mexican chefs, and Vietnamese jokes on the wall. It's an Asian-Cajun-Seafood mutt restaurant with ice cold beer and massive menus in mangled Engrish. It has fish nets hanging from the ceiling, brightly colored posters advertising Karaoke night and sports bar TVs. It's endearingly quirky, it's absolutely one of a kind. And it's in the perfect location, the upstairs part of the Redondo Beach Pier where nobody goes. Oh yeah, and it's got a damned good view of the ocean and pier. So, yeah you'll get a seat no matter how crazy crowded it is elsewhere, which is why we picked it for our party of 15 on High School Graduation Friday. Seated immediately. Bam! Yeah you will get a huge, massive portion of seafood at the best price possible. Yes the beer is perfect. Yes you will have a hard time figuring out what to get between whats on the menu and the many chalkboard specials. But you better watch out for the spicy sauce. I had medium garlic for my Alaskan King Crab and I tell you it was an ordeal. The meal came out in a giant turkey-sized basting bag with a plastic clothespin keeping all the spicy steam and heat on the legs. I opened the bag and cleared my sinuses, like whoosh! I have never had this combination of Cajun spice and garlic. I appreciated the uniqueness but it took me a while to stop crying. It was like Man vs Food off in there. It's delicious and I'm trying to get the pound and a half down my gullet, but it was taking its toll. It was work. The beer helps. A lot. At the end of the meal I am stuffed, happy, not particularly broke and still unsure about what I just experienced. This restaurant is the Twilight Zone. Bring your appetite, and if you want spicy, bring your big boy pants.

I had lunch and dinner here a few times. It doesn't have the dynamics of The Boiling Crab but I don't have to drive far and wait for a ridiculously long time for seating so for cajun bucket shrimp, crawfish and crab this has become my local go-to place. I have rarely seen it busy but it has a great view, decent food to dive in and get dirty and the price is right.

First things first: Do not come here expecting Boiling Crab. Do that, and you'll enjoy your meal. We come here pretty regularly, as it's a restaurant that's great with kids, not too far, and has a GREAT view. Service is always attentive when we go, and you don't have to worry about a long wait - if any. Now on to the food. We order the shrimp (original, medium spice) and the clams (garlic butter, no spice- to share with kids) and the dungeness crab (original, medium spice). All are great, no complaints. The kids love the calamari there, so we usually get that too. They offer a Thai dipping sauce made of chills, fish sauce, brown sugar, and vinegar that's quite tasty, and adds to the Thai flavor. The Tom yum soup is good here too! Overall, good eats, definitely a fan of this place. With such a choice location, I think they need to hire some young waitstaff and work on their marketing. It would definitely help draw in a bigger crowd, but truth be told, I like how easy it is to get a table here :)

Don't get me wrong, i love boiling crab, but i prefer The Shrimp Lover. It does have two different tastes...the shrimp lover has more of a curry feel to it (but it's super delicious!) and the boiling crab has more of a gralic taste. You can't really compare the two as they both have their own recipes..BUT unlike other shrimp places that try to imitate the boiling crab's recipes..this does not. I love it here! Never a long wait, very good service, and you get a view of the pier all while enjoying your seafood. It's pretty cheap too! Another reason why i love it here is because my boyfriend is always my foodie date, and he's not a big fan of food with heads on it or even getting his hands messy (weird, i know) ..actually he doesn't like seafood in general, unless it's in pasta, so I can't really go to The Boiling Crab without feeling guilty that I'm the only one enjoying my seafood :P However, The Shrimp Lover has a thai food menu that consists of entrees like pad thai and pad si ew (or however it's spelled) and even soup, and he loves it here! Also, you get to walk on the pier or the beach when you're all finished! Can't get any better than that :)

Sure, technically it's crab, but it's really more like wet cardboard in a shell. A huge disappointment. Live, fresh Dungeness crab meat is firm, flaky and sweet. What I was served was mush meat in a shell. You can instantly tell crab meat has begun the process of breaking down and decaying because the meat will collapse into a mushy goo when touched. Its a sign that ownership is more interested in saving costs than ensuring quality. Ditto the crawfish. Tasteless, almost certainly frozen for weeks. Eating each crawfish tail was like popping a pencil eraser in my mouth. I wanted to like this place. But imagining the staff fishing out a dead crab from their tank, boiling and serving me that dead crab, taking my money for it, and on top of all that being generally inattentive and rude during service - well, that makes me physically sick and on the verge of vomiting. Seriously, I'm about to puke on my keyboard if I don't end this review. Sad.

Right off the bat, you can't help but compare it to the Boiling Crab. It doesn't help that the name alone makes you wonder who came first (Boiling Crab first opened in 2004, don't know about Boiling Shrimp). Since I've been to Boiling Crab, I can't help bu compare the two. However, if you have never been to B.C., Boiling Shrimp is worthy enough to check out. MENU: After getting over the name, the next thing that catches your eye is the menu. Boiling Shrimp's menu is two-fold. Half of it is exactly like Boiling Crab's entire menu, with its sell-by-the-pound Cajun seafood in bags with sauces and the sides of Sweet Potato Fries, Cajun Fries, Corn on the Cobs, etc. Shrimp here (I assume that's what most people eat at both Boiling Crab and Shrimp) is $10.99/lb, compared to B.C.'s $9.99/lb. However, Boiling Shrimp is located in Redondo Beach, where rent is higher and we had an oceanside view outside the window of our table. So that $1 difference makes sense and isn't all that big of a deal. The Thai food section has entrees/meats such as BBQ Chicken or Salmon with Teriyaki, served with Rice and Salad. FOOD: My sister and I both got a pound of Shrimp, Lemon Pepper, non-spicy. It comes in a bag (like B.C.), but they then place it inside a bucket. It's kind of pointless other than that it looks more interesting, but then you'll probably just take it out of the bucket to eat from the bag anyways. For me, my batch definitely had a mild kick to it despite my ordering it non-spicy. The lemon pepper sauce itself had a good amount of taste. However, the sauce was very watery, especially compared to that of B.C. Boiling Crab's sauces are thicker and thus stick better to the shrimp, especially when you dip it back in after removing the shells. That being said, you could just keep dipping it in and the sauce definitely has taste. My girlfriend ordered a pound of Shrimp with the medley (The Whole She-Bang equivalent) with medium spice. Boiling Shrimp's medley includes four sauces, I assume, since they have Garlic Butter, Lemon Pepper, Original (Louisiana), and Indian Spice. My girlfriend said the Indian flavor really was overpowering and stood out the most in the medley. I asked if that was a good or bad thing. She said it wasn't necessarily either, but whether or not you enjoy the Indian taste. A pound of shrimp came out to 18 Shrimps. The corn on the cob was quite tasteless. It really tasted like water, and the watery sauces did not stick well onto the corn. Boiling Crab's corn gets the definite heads up here. We also got Garlic Bread ($4, 8 pieces) which was satisfactory. The Sweet Potato Fries were good, but a little too cooked. If you like them super crunchy, we had a good batch. My dad got a seafood dish (clams? mussels?) with rice, and I think it wasn't very large. My mom got salmon teriyaki. I think they were satisfactory in terms of taste/quality because they didn't say otherwise. $2 for Refillable Soda. They also have Milk/Thai Teas. Their water has a lemon taste to it. ENVIRONMENT/AMBIENCE: On a late Monday afternoon, it was pretty quiet, with only a few other tables. The restaurant is located someone alone on the second floor of the Redondo Beach Boardwalk. One side of it faces the ocean, so you can have a pretty decent view as you dine, which we did. The staffers were friendly and helped us out quickly. At one point, the sun was shining into our eyes, and they quickly helped us lower the blinds a bit. They cover the table with a large sheet of wax paper, a la Boiling Crab. They also provide a roll of paper towels for your messy eating needs, as well as bibs for those who eat the saucy seafood. CONCLUSION: It isn't Boiling Crab, but it's pretty close. You can have the same Cajun seafood, or you can go for Thai food if that's what you're feeling. Or you can even have both. Prices are reasonable, maybe a bit higher than B.C. but Boiling Shrimp is located in a more expensive area and is on the beach. If you're craving that Cajun Seafood and are nowhere near a B.C., the Boiling Shrimp definitely delivers just about the same and will satisfy your cravings.

SUMMARY: Mediocre at best. Great view, though. Friend and I went with obvious expectations of something similar to Boiling Crab, even though we shouldn't have. But we did, I mean, the name was 90% similar. And boy did we wish we hadn't. According to their sign and yelp, they open at 11. We arrived at 11:05AM - doors were tightly shut and locked with no signs of human inside the restaurant. Chair were above tables and signage were before locked doors at entrance. No lights either. BUT the sign on the window says "OPEN." At 11:10AM - confused, we called the restaurant and asked if they were open. They said "YES." Even MORE confused, we told them: "We're in front of your door and it's locked." "Oh. We're not ready yet. Give us a few minutes." Some guy shows up from behind us OUTSIDE the restaurant 5 minutes later and went into a door that was obviously the kitchen. Another couple of minutes later, that SAME guy came to open the door for us. At this point, I'm having mixed feelings of "???" and "this can't be good..." Now the FOOD: We ordered 2 lbs of shrimp and 2 lbs of clams, medley sauce, medium spiciness level. Sauce was mediocre and not enough flavor for a "medley" and neither was it spicy enough. Clams were a tad bigger than Boiling Crab but shrimps were disappointing. They do include fresh basil leaves and potatoes without additional costs though. Checked in on Yelp and you get a free soda. Bonus for that. Restaurant located right at the Redondo pier and GREAT view from the window. Another bonus. When we left, it was past noon on a Friday and the gigantic restaurant was EMPTY. Probably not a good sign. Oh Boiling Crab, I will never cheat on you again. Consider this my lesson learned.

Went here with a huge group of about 12 people - they were really accommodating! They provided us with paper towels, water, and great service. We ordered a whole slew of foods: the shrimp, crab, sausage, potatoes, and corn all mixed up in their yummy, spicy Thai concoction. We also got some garlic bread, sweet potato fries, and regular fries which were alright. But that sauce of theirs is quite delicious! It's a mixture of Thai and Cajun, which means spicy. I loved all the spices and it actually turned out pretty well. It was a little difficult to find at first, but it's located on the second floor of the Redondo Pier. You can park either in the structure and walk up or you can park at the end, next to the restaurant, there's a large parking lot. It's good though, enough to sustain my cravings for Boiling Crab when it's just too far away.

Never been to boiling crab so I can't compare the two but this place is great! Fast friendly service nice atmosphere and good food. The $40 bucket of clams, mussels, crab legs, corn, and sausage is and enough for two

We walked into chaos and should have left right that moment. It took forever to be greeted, a while longer to be sat and then another century went by before someone came to take our drink order. Meanwhile, employees were bustling about and never acknowledged us... to add to the noise of restaurant and the night club themed music blaring from the speakers there was a little girl (approximately 4 or 5 years old) running around, making a ton of noise and riling up the other children eating there. At one point, there were three small children running around in circles in the middle of the restaurant. (I'm pretty sure the little girl was the daughter of one of the waitresses). I even saw this young lady jump up and grab the arm of a man who was waiting to be seated.... he didn't look pleased. Don't get me wrong, I love kids but there's a time and a place to run around and play in that manner, a restaurant in the middle of a busy weekend day is not one of those places or times.... Soooo, let's fast forward to the ordering process. It seemed to take a lot of explaining on our part when we were trying to ask questions and make adjustments to our order, there was definitely a language barrier. We wouldn't have had to do nearly so much wheedling if they had more than one option on their kids menu... that ONE option consists of french fries, dino chicken nuggets and deep fried mozzarella sticks.... not very healthy. We tried to order half a pound of shrimp for him but they refused to sell less than a pound at a time. Finally we ordered and the food came out pretty quickly much to our surprise. I ordered 1 lb of shrimp (comes in a bucket) with the original seasoning and it was delicious however, they forgot to include the corn on the cob and never brought it out. My boyfriend ordered some cajun fried rice because he didn't feel like getting messy that day; it was not good at all. He picked the shrimp out of it and left the rest, we didn't even bring it home. We probably won't be back to this place. While my shrimp was delicious I don't think it's worth going through all of the other headaches to get it.

I like the place. I grew up in Orange County and my friends family owned the Boiling Crab Restaurant. Moved out here and missed the Cajun Shrimp and Crayfish. So glad I found this place. The food was great and the people there were friendly.

This restaurant is located on the Redondo Beach pier next to the infamous Tony's. it has a wonderful view of the ocean! As far as the food goes, just be aware that this is no Boiling Crab (L.A. and Orange County). The sauces have more of a Thai influence. There were Thai basil leaves throughout the bag of sauce and there was a sweetness to it as well. The sauce is bearable, but the Cajun fries....stay away from the Cajun fries. Their interpretation consisted of thick fries with a thick batter that was deep fried for too long. Such a disappointment. I suggest passing on this place and just head to either The Boiling Crab or Claws. Price wise, they all charge the same per pound of seafood. But, that's just my opinion, different strokes for different folks.

Love this place, first time I came and it was a great experience. My family and I ordered the seafood combo which was more than enough for all of us plus some fresh young coconuts. The service was super friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and together with the beautiful view of the ocean makes for a great place to eat.

So this place does remind me of.the boiling crab. But way better the waitress was super nice and very helpful even though she had a very heavy accent. We had the crab, shrimp and.fried oysters all of it was the bomb..

Have eaten here twice now. Got the snow crab the first time which was delicious. Second visit got the shrimp meal with the medley seasoning, medium, which was pretty spicy but tolerable. Food and service were very good. I tend to be very picky about how shrimp is cooked and it was some of the best texture wise I have had. Good food and reasonable for what you get. Will be back again. Twice in a two week timeframe already. Also I haven't tried the delivery through Grubhub yet but it is offered which makes me extremely happy!!

I came here about 2 weeks ago to celebrate the birthday of my two friends. We were craving some seafood and decided to try out The Boiling Shrimp while we were at the Redondo Beach Pier. Some of the people in our group, me included, have a great love affair with Boiling Crap, particularly the one located in Garden Grove. It's just a pain to have to drive all the way down there and wait in a long, terrible line just to get my hands on the shrimpy goodness. Now price-wise, Boiling Shrimp is a tad more expensive than Boiling Crab. They charge $10.99/lb of shrimp, compared to the $8.99 from Boiling Crab. But i suppose that equates to the gas price I would save from driving there. I ordered a pound of shrimp with the medley sauce, medium spiciness level. It wasn't spicy at all. The sauce was quite flavorful, but not as flavorful as the one from Boiling Crab. However, it was a fair substitute. The shrimp came in a plastic bag, which was placed in a cute pail, color-coded by spicy level. The shrimp was also really large. So it did a decent job satisfying my shrimp craving. The fries were MEH. The texture was good. it was crunch on the outside and soft in the inside. But flavor-wise, it was forgetful. I couldn't taste the sweet potato-y goodness from the sweet poato fries. So If i dipped it in ketchup, all i could taste was the ketchup. So in that respect, it fell short. The fries weren't memorable and so I probably won't order from them again. The service was really good! The staff was very attentive and the shrimp was good. My conclusion is: pretty good, but not amazing. Will I be back if warranted? sure. Will I crave this place and have a deep yearning to come here? Probably not. But hey, i love mah shrimp. PS! Good thing to keep in mind. IF you check in on yelp, they give you a discount.

Want pretty good seafood and not wait 2 hours to get it? Go to The Boiling Shrimp... Let me get this out of the way. The Boiling Crab is 100 times better... however, if you feel the urge to get something similar in half the time on a bad day than come here... I called in before I went tonight (Thursday) and the owner said they are only super busy on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The fam was debating whether to come here or The Boiling Crab in Wilshire... in the end we came here... We ordered the two pounds of shrimp , cajun fries, and pad-see-ew. The Pad-See-Ew is surprisingly good for a place like this. It was not the best but definitely worth it if you want to keep your hands clean while everyone else gets their hands dirty. The Shrimp we ordered it Medley (whole shaaaabang at Boiling Crab). It taste similar to the Shrimp at Boiling Crab but downgraded several notches. While it is good, you do not go, WOW THIS IS GREATTT!!!!!! Cajun fries are the same, second rate compared to Boiling Crab. Service is a 5 out of 5. Very nice servers compared to the ones at Boiling Crab. Not being that busy on a Thursday night and not having as much customers (lol) as Boiling Crab helps though. If you want a substitution of The Boiling Crab and do not want to wait for several hours, come here. I would suggest going to The Boiling Crab before coming here and only use The Boiling Shrimp as your plan B. 4/5 Probably the highest negative review for a 4... Whatever, it's still a 4. =)

For the Boiling Crab lovers out there, This is NOT part of the "Boiling Crab" franchise. The "Shrimp lover" has more of a Thai taste.. This is not a bad thing..Their butter spicy flavored sauce with garlic and basil is just simply addicting. We normally order the medium spice and that is SPICY!! enough.. The restaurant is situated by the Redondo Beach Pier, 2nd floor, overlooking the pier . Nice ambiance. Be prepared to use your hand as you devour the stack of seafood in front of you..

This place really hit the spot for us in all aspects. It was late on a Sunday night and we had a craving for crab. This place was open later than a lot of the other crab places in the area so we gave it a try. We ordered garlic toast and two pounds of snow crab with the garlic butter sauce, not spicy. The food came out fast and was nice and hot. The toast was DELICIOUS- a definite must. The crab was lightly sauced, the perfect amount to where it wasn't smothered, but still had enough flavor. They played great country music, which was a personal plus. The service was attentive and friendly. It was pretty fairly priced. We will definitely be back soon! Yum!

Saw that this place was finally open, so, we gave it a try. If you like that Boiling Crab model.....it's a good place! The folks are nice, the food is good ( not wow), and it's got a good view of the pier. I sure question the location!! The rent has gotta be huge, and who would know its there if you didn't happen to walk by it?? Good luck!!

Went here with a party of 20, the place was not crowded at all. It took a pretty good hour to get our food (thats why I gave 4 out of 5 ) But the food was bomb.com . I ordered the pound of shrimp and my boyfriend ordered the catfish basket. Oh we also shared a calamari basket. Everything was delish! No complaints on the food. Would definitely go back there again.

Not bad. The servers are friendly, but like mentioned before, the did forget our hot wings and that my wife asked for no dressing on the salad. Our waitress didn't write anything down so that is probably why she forgot. I had the shrimp. Medium heat. Very tasty. You better be prepared to work for this meal. The shrimp comes with skin and head so you get to do some decapitation.

If I was to rate the service separately from the food Service: 5 Stars Food: 3 Stars We came here in a weekday because its near by home, it has no wait, and it was my brother's 30th birthday. It was late (9PM) but we got seated right away. In fact - the place was kinda empty - with only 4 other parties besides us. We ordered: -Fried Calamari - Amazing. Fried to perfection. The batter wasn't too heavy and it went great with the white sauce. -Pad Thai - Too sweet for my liking. -2 LB of Shrimp - Our 2lb of shrimp came separately in 1lbs. One bag was definitely overcooked -1 LB of Crawfish with sausage and corn - Same as the shrimp, our crawfish was overcooked. I'm sure when people come here - they are expecting Louisiana flavored seafood like Boiling Crab. While the restaurant tries EVEN harder than Boiling Crab to provide hospitality and service - the flavors do not come close to Boiling Crab's Shebang sauce. In my opinion - their shebang sauce is a bit too sweet and doesn't have the kick that Boiling Crab does. If your looking for -No wait -Fun Atmosphere -Amazing view -2 Beers for the price of 1. We had 4 beers for only $7.00 Come to Boiling Shrimp but if your REALLY craving for the Shebang flavor from Boiling Crab and anything less wouldn't satisfy you - then go and stand in the 2hour wait at Boiling Crab. PS: Their prices are higher than Boiling Crab but your paying for cheaper beer and an amazing view

The happiest accidental find ever! We were stumbling around the pier trying to decide what restaurant would be best and most reasonably priced and BAM! There is was. The food is AMAZING. Its super simple, super flavorful and literally finger licking good. We ordered a pound of shrimp, a pound of mussels, corn on the cob, cajon fries, calamari and garlic bread. WAY more than enough for two! Everything was amazing, it was super fun to eat of the baggie and tossing the shells into the bucket... and it was super affordable! Seriously some of the freshest, most delicious shellfish I had ever had! And my boyfriend cannot stop eating the fries! We got extra to take home even! Took the toast home too! Amazing. Oh and the service was fantastic!!! Super fast service, very attentive, always a smiling face if you needed something! It was so refreshing to have such awesome service! One of the best date nights I've ever had :)

Saw this on a day trip on the beach and since I saw it I couldn't stop thinking of trying it out. We went on a Saturday afternoon. I called ahead to make sure they were open & if I needed to reserve. The lady said no need to reserve & when we got there, we got a table with a great ocean view. Redondo Beach happens to be my favorite beach and I'd really like for it to thrive & this place spares me to drive far for the menu that they have plus some Thai items. Service is 5 stars. Very friendly and they were quick to point out a promo of $35 but we don't eat the other stuff on the menu. We ordered 2 lbs shrimp, garlic, lemon, pepper, mild spicy (I wanted 1.5 lbs but they don't do half pounds), Alaskan crab legs, Cajun fries, corn, padthai, rice. The shrimp still came more spicy than expected & I wished it had more taste to it. I typically take the shell off and dip it back for flavor but there was not much sauce left to dip it into. Shrimp 3/5. The fries seem thicker/shorter than most fries in other restaurants & taste seem ok. 3/5. The Alaskan crab came cracked already and the meat inside have shrunk/overcooked. There was more sauce in the bag of the crab so I dipped my shrimps there and put sauce on the rice too. That made the shrimp better. Crab 3/5. The corn came in separate bowls by itself and although it looked like it was cooked with some butter, I couldn't taste it. I putted it in one of the bags so it would get the seafood seasoning but as it was cooked separate, it just doesn't taste that way. Corn 1/5. For the padthai, wish we didn't order it. Restroom: 2 stalls/ONE sink. For a place where hands are used to eat, there should be at least 2 sinks I think. Glad we came when the place was not crowded. Overall: Boiling Shrimp 3/5 because of the service, location, ambience. Redondo beach is my favorite beach and I was happy to be the beach. The menu is great and really hoping the food/taste would improve. I really hope their management would listen to these comments although negative but take it as a chance to improve. That is why I'm writing this so they know what's wrong so people will come back. I'm thinking others may just not come back. It would be sooo great to eat at a place with such great ambience and the food tasted great too.. Really wish that was the case. A friend asked if I would recommend Boiling Shrimp over Boiling Crab. I recommended the latter in a heartbeat because of the taste. But Boiling Shrimp has lots of potential. Hope management listens.

This is the boys favorite place at Redondo Beach Yes- it's like the BC but has other dishes too - Usually get lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams all with the everything sauce and either medium or spicy. The last few times I got the fried catfish and it was yummy - a cornmeal crust. Everyone that works there is really nice!

We ended up here because we wanted the boiling crab without the wait. The place is hard to find but We loved it!! We had 1lb of shrimp - no spice, 1lbs of clams - mild spice and 1lbs NZ - mild spice all with everything. We ended up loving the mild spice it was just enough kick without ruining the meal. We also had the fried cat fish with Cajun fries all of this for under 50. We bought disposable gloves to eat with and dug in. I highly recommend this place.

I went here tonight after I saw a huge poster at the Redondo Beach pier! It's located above the pier, behind the police station. I walked in with my family and was surprised to find no one there, but they were open!! I'm SO GLAD I came in because the food was bombdiggs. I've tried Boiling Crab before, and the concept is similar, but with some different flavors. My sister, mom, and I ordered two pounds of shrimp (one with the medley which is all the seasonings, and one with just indian spice), one pound of clams (Original Louisiana), and some cajun fries. the cajun fries were soooo crispy and hot fresh fried!! the cajun seasoning was fried into it, instead of sprinkled on top. the reason i'm coming back is for the INDIAN SPICE.... OMG BOMB.COM. and they have this special side house sauce that is a tarty thai dipping sauce which is super garlicky and you can pour it over everythanggggg. get ready to peel yo' shrimp. suck those shrimp heads. dip the shrimp back into the sauce and the thai dipping sauce, and eat it ALL UPPP YEEEEE. i really liked how this was located on the pier too because you could see the sunset/ocean while you eat. more people ended up coming in for dinner too! eat it now before they start to get crowded!!!! so yumss!

It's scrumptious! It's worth the $ for a by the the pier location. View is awesome. Mix seafood 39.99 is enough to share among 4 adults. Definitely will visit again. Clam chowder is okay, I prefer "Capt. Kidds". Garlic bread is definitely from Costco, they should make their own. "Mild" flavor is spicy if you don't eat spicy. Hot green tea is nasty, it's 1 tea bag with a pot of hot water. They should brew their own. Wings with cacun fries is good. Overall I went for the shrimp and seafood and that was bomb so all the little minor stuff i mentioned was just my personal opinion.

Great location on upper pier. Beautiful sunset. Ordered 1 lb. spicy shrimp and a combo chicken, snow peas, rice and salad plate. Shrimp bucket was served in a bag, About 12 shrimp had eyes, legs and tails. Brought a peeler. Plate was good. Salad dressing too sweet. Service could have been better. Woodbridge Chardonnay and Coors Light priced right. Will give them a second try. Were full when we left at 8 pm Friday night.

Ok, first off I liked it. That's why they got 4 stars. It isn't the boiling crab but it's closer to my house and still seafood. I like the thai food options since I love thai food. Their cajun fries are better than boiling crab's, but the rest is close enough. I will return based on their locality and nice view overlooking the ocean

Walked by this place last week when we were at the pier eating at another restaurant and decided to give it a try. Went on a Tuesday night about 7pm and there were only two other customers in the place, during our meal 4 other people came in. Yes it is a little out of the way up above the Redondo Pier and does not have a lot of walk by traffic but if they want to make a go of it they are going to have to figure a way to get more people in on a week night. We were greeted right away when we walked in and seated right away, it took a little while for the waitress to come back and ask what we wanted for drinks, I ordered a water and the wife got iced tea both had an off taste and we replaced them with soda. Don't know if it was the tap water they used to make the tea or if the glasses weren't rinsed properly but they just didn't taste right, the soda's were fine so I'm guessing something was up with the tap water. Ordered a pound of Shrimp, Catfish and Calamari, first the good, Calamari was cooked perfectly!, next the ugly, Catfish tasted fine but was shaped like giant fish sticks, again nothing wrong with the tastes just kind of expected something that looked more like a filet than a stick. Both the fried items came with Cajun fries that were pretty good. The shrimp came lasts after we has a couple minutes to taste the catfish and calamari, both were a little under seasoned so I asked for salt and pepper. The cook who brought out the shrimp looked a little upset and proved it when he came back with a little container of tiny salt and pepper packets, he held the container until he told me that he would appreciate it if we tasted the food as prepared before we add more seasonings, he then placed the container on the table and slowly took his hand away like he was hoping I was going to say "ok never mind, I don't need your salt and pepper" but in reality we had already tasted the fried items and I wanted some salt and pepper on them. Also while we are on the subject of salt and pepper, I hate those little packets, they have no place in a restaurant where you are sitting down to eat, spend a little money and get some shakers and put them on the table, so I don't have to open a bunch of little packets to put some pepper on my food. So then we get into the shrimp, it comes in a bucket and is cooked in a plastic bag, and when you open the bag the shrimp is extra hot, so watch your fingers, a pound of shrimp does not sound like much but there was enough in there for the two of us to have our fill, the shrimp were a little over cooked but the Garlic Butter sauce was flavorful. The Main drawback to the shrimp is that they are unshelled with the head on so you will need to use your fingers and it will be messy and since the shrimp are HOT you may burn your fingers. Another drawback is that while there are rolls of paper towels on the tables they don't provide a hot towel or hand wipes to clean your hands after the meal, you will need to go the restroom to wash up. So the food is good, the price is reasonable, they don't like to give you Salt and Pepper, you have to use your fingers to eat and walk with greasy hands to the restroom to wash-up after eating. The view is nice looking out over the Redondo Pier but being as this is the only restaurant up above the pier it's a little out of the way and may not survive unless they do something to get better crowds during the evening. Overall a 3 out of 5

Garlic bread is cheap and the taste speaks cheap too. Its white toast with butter spread on it with a hint of garlic. Ordered the garlic butter shrimp and it had a whisper of Thai curry flavor incorporated. Not saying it was bad, but it sure is different. 10.99 a per lb of shrimp. Also ordered the friend calamari. Man was that disappointing, it was obviously frozen calamari NOT FRESH at all. Kinda sad since I mean we are 50 ft from the ocean lol. The place has a nice view of the pier. A bit hidden if you're not paying attention because it is higher than the actual pier itself. Half of the staff are nice however the other half needs to work on their people skills. We got a free beverage upon checking in on Yelp. The concept is obviously like boiling crab but the flavor is a bit different and it has more Thai food options on the back. The cajun fries were just okay, nothing special (much better at boiling crab). I'll probably come back for their Thai food next time.

maybe we went on an off night? We ordered: 2 LB. SHRIMP (MED. SPICY, MEDLEY) It was very bland..like the seasoning didn;t marinate through. I feel like the flavoring would've been good if they added more salt... and i usually eat food on the blander side. CORN ON THE COB: that was bland, as well. They basically just boiled the corn and then threw it in the shrimp bag. RICE: didn't taste like it was made that day FRIES: this was just ok... but it was the best part of this meal. To the tell you the truth.. I don't think I'd come back. Bummer...

Love this place. Get their special seafood combo original medium spicy. For $40 dollars you get clams, mussels, crab, crawfish, shrimp, potatoes, corn & sausage. You cant beat that & its so yummy. Dont forget to add a basket of cajun fries and garlic bread. SOOO GOOOD!

I liked it. But theres nothing really special. The flavor is good but ordinary. I liked how big the shrimps were tho! Its very filling. You know its really fresh too. The view of the pier is perfect thats why i really enjoyed my first experience here. Will definitely coming back. Fairly priced too!

If you've been there before and weren't impressed, give it one more try! We were there about 8 months ago and maybe gave it 2-3 stars. After giving it another try last week, we're convinced it is 4 star quality! Something has changed about their sauce and changed for the better in taste. Prices are higher and service sucked but it was busy. Our kids are true Boiling Crab lovers and we are huge fans of Hot n Juicy (Las Vegas) so I hope my review helps. :)

I would give 3.5 stars, but am rounding up because I want to see this new place on the pier thrive. It seems like they're going for a Joe's crabshack kind of atmosphere, nets hanging from the ceiling, bibs and a roll of paper towels on the table. The server was nice and very attentive until we were finished eating and she disappeared. Had to go to the counter to pay. The seafood I would give five stars, but do NOT order the pad thai or any of the noodle dishes on the other side of the menu. I ordered the alaskan king crab legs and they were delicious, huge, meaty and tender. I got the medley spice medium and it was pretty hot, next time would try a simpler flavor to not overpower the mild seafood flavor. I thought the prices for the seafood were good and the beers were two for one. Hubby is vegan so he got pad thai with tofu. These noodles came out soooo greasy I could see a sheen of oil coating the whole dish. By the time he was half way through he was tilting his plate so the grease could pool on the other side from where he was trying to eat. I threw an entire crumpled paper towel on the plate when he was done and it soaked through with more oil puddled up around it. So gross. Stay away from the thai side of the menu and stick to the things that come in a bag. Other guests seemed to be enjoying the shrimp quite a bit. There were a few large parties celebrating birthdays and they accommodate large parties well. Will definitely return to try the seafood again. Also, the view is gorgeous!

If you've had Boiling Crab, don't expect this to be the same. Boiling Crab is much better. I thought 1lb of food I ordered in Boiling Crab seems small, but it's even smaller here. I usually order the whole She-bang sauce from Boiling Crab. We'd ordered the Boiling Shrimp's version and Boiling Crab's sauce is a lot better. Also, the corn we ordered is so watery and the sauce doesn't get absorbed so the corn tasted bland. Yes, it has a nice view, if you are into that, but if you are into food, drive to Boiling Crab.

Glad that they finally opened a legit cajun shrimp place around the SouthBay area, but it just doesn't compare to Boiling Crab or Kickin' Crab that they have in the 626 and OC area. SO SAD. I'm not even that fat when it comes to my appetite but I finished "one" pound by myself and I could have sworn it was only half a pound (okay, or maybe I'm just fat?). Additionally, the staff is either rude and/or just not attentive enough. The man who initially took our order was very impatient because we couldn't decide in ABOUT 5 SECONDS how spicy we wanted our shrimp and they gave us minimal salt, pepper, and lime. MEH.

Well I have been to many of the other places around LA trying to do this same style restaurant and thing there are better options out there. I will say the dungeness crab was 5 stars here.. that is because they are live and cooked fresh. The meat was so tender and juicy I was in heaven. The crawfish on the other hand were surely some of the worst i have ever had. The staff claim they were cooked in louisiana and the shipped to LA where they reheat them and add the sauce. Well.. that went horribly wrong cause they were tough, rubbery.. and sometime mushy. you could hardly even peel some of them. The cajun fries were awesome though. The sauces were probably the highlight. They had great original cajun sauce and a really interesting medly you could pick witch includes all of their sauces mixed together... otherwise know as "the whole shabang" ... ala boiling crab. I would say that i did like this place I just would avoid the crawfish and stick to crab and shrimp.

We started off with the bucket of medium hot boiled shrimp. It was good! We ordered fried shrimp for my son & he loved it! He dipped it in the honey. Delicious! I think the fried shrimp was better than the bucket. The waitress forgot to give me a 2nd batch of the fried shrimp & I Waited for a while. She also didn't pass by to look if I needed more water; I had to call her over. But at the end, the food was good!

B for taste, F for service. The spices they use remind me of my many trips to Thailand. Along with the tastes comes Thai time. Everything here is at a snail's pace. The restaurant wasn't full but we had to wait about 45 mins to get seated, then another 30 mins to get our drinks, and yet another wait to get our food.

This is a really good restaurant for seafood. The shrimp and crawfish are always fresh. There's giant flats screens to watch sports on. I haven't tried Boiling crab... I know ;P but this is as good as it gets in the South Bay. Plus there's no wait on a Friday night. And don't forget to order some garlic bread. It's delicious!

Fun, good service, food was solid, beer was cheap ($3.50 for Chang; $15 for 5). What's not to like? Not the best meal I ever had, but it did not disappoint and I had a great time. Remember what used to occupy this space over the years? Mediocre Indian. Sub-par Korean seafood. I think The Boiling Shrimp has a good chance of success at this terrific location. Good for a casual date night. Lots of high chairs and no problem for folks with babies. Beats driving to BFE and waiting in line for the Boiling Crab. Forget it. I'm going local and supporting this Thai-run seafood joint.

This place is tucked away on the second floor of the Redondo Beach Pier and Boardwalk. I always thought that there were only offices up there, but my friend and I saw this place when we were taking a less-traveled walk around the Pier one night. It's a large restaurant, which could use many more patrons to fill the tables, but seems to have attracted a group of regulars. No long wait to get seated. There were more than enough tables. The staff is attentive and fast, for the most part. The servers tied on our bibs for us and made sure we had water. The food came out hot and fast, too. With our bibs securely fastened, our hands washed, the giant roll of paper towels and the grease paper (butcher paper) lining the top of our table, my friend and I were ready to eat. And therein came the disappointment. I really want this place to thrive. I want it to be the South Bay destination for cajun-style seafood, since there isn't anything like it down here. But, even without a comparison to Boiling Crab, I think I'd be disappointed with the food. My friend and I ordered a pound of shrimp and two cobs of corn cooked in the mild-medium spice medley sauce, as well as fried calamari, which comes with cajun fries. The shrimp came out, hot and marinating in the medley sauce, inside a plastic bag, stuck inside a brightly colored yellow metal pail. Cute. It gave the table a nice beachy feel and was a nice, marked difference from Boiling Crab, which just plops the plastic bag on to the table. It was cleaner. Indeed, the restaurant looks and feels very clean. The medley sauce was garlicky and good (although it wasn't very memorable), with a little spice and a little sweetness. The cajun fries had a similar flavor of sweetness and spice, with a fried crispness that made them addictive to eat. The fried calamari was decent, not too chewy and with a lightly golden crispness to the fried batter. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The sauce that came with it seemed weird, like a mix between ranch dressing and aioli. Not enough tang to balance the fried flavors. My friend and I started dipping the calamari and the fries in the giant pool of medley sauce remaining at the bottom of the plastic bag. That was good. Sadly, the shrimp and the corn that came in the sauce were not so good. Both were severely overcooked and did not seem all that fresh. The corn looked and tasted as if it had been frozen and then thawed by cooking in the medley sauce. It did not have the texture of cooked fresh corn, which is a shame, since there's lots of fresh corn to be had now, since it's the season for it. I bit into the corn on the cob and got nothing but mush. The shrimp was flavorful but did not soak up the marinade. It tasted better after we shelled it and then soaked the naked body in the sauce. But, again, the texture was off. I had to devein some of the shrimp, because the flavor was really off, and in doing so, the shrimp flesh became mush in some parts. Again, it was like dealing with cooked frozen food. Maybe I'll try coming here again in a few months to see if it's improved, but while I liked the space, the concept, the effort, and the staff, the food wasn't satisfying. I hope it improves and that those who like it keep supporting it.

Family atmosphere and reasonable prices...I liked, and used, the check-in special for a free soda (refills are free). I ordered the pork platter with mint and chili. We kept ordering appetizers as the food took longer than average to be served and the wait service was a bit slow. I think I've had better batter-dipped food at Long John Silvers but, when everything arrived, everyone else seemed happy at our table with their fresh seafood. When my food did arrive, however, it was so spicy that it was not palatable, which was disappointing after waiting so long for the food...and I like spicy food. Even others tried it at our table and couldn't handle the spiciness either. So be forewarned: "spicy" means VERY spicy!

Sad attempt to being like Boiling Crab. Food is cheap but the service and everything else is horrible. Fried foods take about 30+ minutes and the seasoned crawfish/shrimp takes about 20. The table next to ours had ordered crawfish and they returned it because it wasn't even fresh... The chicken wings came out burnt so it wasn't even edible. The taste isn't even close to Boiling Crab and the extra spicy flavor tastes sour??? Now my stomach is upset... I'M NEVER GOING BACK. You should stay away from this place.

I like going here coz it's the closest thing to Boiling Crab in Torrance area. I like munching on mussels and shrimps with the Medley spice. In my opinion the shrimps are bigger than Boiling Crab. I'd rate the calamari rings a "B" as well as the sweet potato fries. Service was friendly and fast. Plus you have a great view of the pier. This place doesn't really get crowded and there is no waiting even on Friday nights or weekends.

I can't say "I'm a fan" primarily because, as I told my husband, it's just not my cup of tea. I ordered the shrimp and they arrived at the table in their boiling bag, completely in tact. I'm not the type of person who enjoys my meal staring back at me so I found myself wishing I had ordered the king crab legs like my husband did. As others have stated, the food did not arrive at the same time but I found myself wondering if the expectation is that the table shares everything, it is a pound of seafood after all. In any event, my meal was so hot I did not mind waiting to start. The seafood was cooked well. We ordered the medium medley spice for the shrimp and the medium garlic butter for the crab. Both sauces were very tasty. I saw a few good reviews on the Cajun fries so we decided to share an order. We didn't finish them and I would never order them again. You can see the spices and expect a flavor explosion but both my husband and I thought they were very bland, almost tasteless. Overall the service was average. They don't go out of their way but they do check in on you.

Went in on a whim since we were passing by. Got seated within 5 minutes on a Sunday night around 8pm. Service = horrible! After taking our drink order, no one ever came by with the drinks. Then they took the food order, after which we had to remind them about our drinks. When they brought our food, the corn was spoiled, and they forgot to bring the Cajun fried rice. When they went to get it, they brought Cajun fries instead! They also forgot to bring this sauce we asked for as well. Not sure if the server was trained properly??? Food = mediocre at best. The shrimp with medley seasoning was good and decently priced (I think $10 per lb) The chow mien was too sweet, and the fried catfish was good but the crust was a little too hard. The cajun fries were tasty, but again kind of on the sweet side. Overall a bad experience. I hope I can attribute it to being open for such a short period of time. I think we went 2 weeks after grand opening. I'm not sure if I want to give it a second try.

The Shrimp Lover is great... good food and good price. You definitely need to be a fan of garlic to enjoy the seasoning... but the shrimp, mussels, and crab are excellent. The customer service is friendly, but they can get a bit overwhelmed at times. Although, you can't beat the food, the price, and the view. Definitely worth a visit.

This place was pretty good when you don't compare it to Boiling Crab (which is incredibly hard to do). The flavor is there when it comes to the sauce (Medley) but the shrimp isn't as infused with the seasoning after you peel and pop them in your mouth. Still, pretty fresh though and definitely still yummy. We also ordered 1 lb of green mussel which I think was cooked perfectly and were very delicious. I almost liked this more than the shrimp! Very, very fresh! Cajun Fries could have been better -- they were too deep fried too long and lost everything inside except the crunchy air...not very flavorful for Cajun fries. Corn is also bland. I had to ask for salt. This place lost stars however because the service is hit or miss. Staff don't really speak English very well and can get confused or be confusing to the customer. We had to repeatedly ask for things that should have already been at the table, follow up with orders, clarification on orders, more of something, etc. Not very good at anticipating the customers' needs but that's ok. There is however and amazing view and it was very clean and spacious. Overall, it was definitely a good place to go if you are craving seafood. There was no wait and had a lot of tables. I'd come here again but Boiling Crab still superior and the best out there!

I've been to Boiling crab, hot n juicy and now boiling shrimp. It's legit. Get the butter garlic spicy with shrimp, crawfish or other assorted seafood and it will come out to you in a bag and your heart will jump for joy. Don't say that shit cray when eating please. Get some rice and soak that sauce all up in it.. It's only a 15 min beach cruiser ride from my crib so i'm totally winning on this one!

not boiling crab. not the shack. but close enough. if you're in the redondo beach area and craving for good seafood, go here instead of those overpriced restaurants on the pier. shrimp is $9.99/lb ($1 more than bc and the shack). service was ok when we went, i felt like they were ready to close so it felt like service was a miss that night. nothing too bad, but not great either. a-ok.

Good Food... Poor Service!! Go there just for the shrimp and cajun fries. The Thai food is decent but you can find much better and less expensive up the street on PCH. The really sad part is that the owners are the only ones that work there AND THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!!! They have NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!

Sometime last week, my boyfriend and I were hungry and decided to eat at this new place, The Boiling Shrimp. The plenty of times that we have seen this place which is so hidden! We ordered a pound of garlic butter hot spicy shrimp and oh boy did we struggle! 3 cups of coke was unable to even take the spiciness out of my mouth, but overall the shrimp was pretty meaty and worth the $10. Before eating here, we would go eat at another redondo beach seafood place, where the shrimp was small, plus a total ripoff for your money! Overall, I definatley recommend.

Wow, really awesome flavor on the seafood as well as the Cajun fries. I'm docking off one star because the sweet potato fries are okay, reminding me too much of the frozen kind. Also you can definitely tell that they use frozen corn on the cob! Overall, service was great and there are no long waits compared to Boiling Crab. Be prepared to get messy because the best way to eat is with your hands!!

Really quiet. Friendly service. Had their Asian dishes. Both (mint sauce combo and pad Thai) were delicious. It was really inexpensive too. The place could use some updating but for try price a good deal. I am from out of state so I don't know the boiling crab but this was nice for the price.

Finally happy to experience this boiling seafood type of restaurant and I'm very happy about it. Delicious, very affordable and great view of the pier. The only reason why I didn't give my 5-star is because the waitress can be unattentive at times. Also, The servers should always ask the customers if it is their first time because boiling shrimp caters to Asians by the way the food is presented.. Over all, food was great and will definitely come back to taste the other items in the menu.

Me and my wife went this place all the time , when they just opened, we thought the foods are great, but not any more, this time we went, we ordered a crab, lb of shrimp, grilled salmon . Non of them are good, the crab we get is a dead crab, the meat has no taste at all , it just falling a part, we told the manager the crab is not fresh and he said the crab is alive alive is not just fresh, he don't change it for us .he is telling a lie. You can't deceive people's mouth. Come on is seafood , everybody can tell is fresh or not. So disappoint, please close down , have another better restaurant . Never go again. This place sucks . Poor service .

Came here randomly on a trip to the beach. It is similar to a Boiling Crab or Rays Crab Shack model where you buy seafood by the pounds and eat it out of a plastic bag with your hands. What made this one different was that it also served thai food on the menu (half the menu). Soooo the three of us ended up getting the special which was a huge pot of crab legs, shrimp, crawfish, mussels, sausages, corn for $35 and a seafood soup. It was a ton of food!!!! and the garlic butter sauce was great, not as buttery as the other places but better and more complex because of the variety of spices use, problably because of the thai owners and influence. The seafood soup was good as well but I was way full. The view is great during sunset =D

This place is horrible! Boiling Crab imposter! Please don't get them confused with the Boiling Crab you will be very disappointed. i ordered Shimp w/ Medley seasoning, fried catfish, cajun fries and corn on the cobb. The catfish was like rubber the shrimp and everything else was bland. My entire meal went straight in the garbage can! Never again!

Shrimp was delish! And service was great! Loved the great view! We brought our 2 kids (ages 3 and 7) and they both loved it! We also ordered the fried shrimp (not good) but we'll stick with the pound of shrimp next time!

ive been to them all... claws / boiling crab / etc.... and lets just say that this is right up there with the rest of them.... the place is clean... the staff is ultra friendly and very very nice... parking is easy and they are easily accommodating to large parties (ie. they take reservations!!!) , ive grown up in the south bay my whole life and im glad that more food type spots are opening up here. i did the shrimps 1lbs and crawfish 1lbs... the sauce is great flavor also the chicken wings and fries.. .cant really mess that up... they had many screens going on showing the game which i liked but it wasnt too loud and crazy so i can hear my people that im with... my water was always topped off and they were so quick to ask and check on my table if we needed any more!! i will see you guys soon again!!! great place!!

We seriously spent a lot of time debating whether to try this place based on the reviews, how it wasn't the Boiling Crab, etc, but after taking a chance on it (after finding out Boiling Crab had a 2.5 hour wait), we both were very pleasantly surprised with the food! We got the crawfish and snow crab legs and it was delicious! We will definitely be back again.

Okay, I wasn't expecting Boiling Crab quality, based on some of the past reviews, and I went in with an open mind. I have to say, that I was pleasantly surprised. Food was very good overall. Ordered shrimp and crawfish (both with Medley sauce), fried calamari with fries and garlic bread. First off, definitely get the garlic bread, it's served hot and toasty, with the perfect amount of buttery garlic toasted in. The fried calamari and fries were just okay. The stars of the show, the shrimp and crawfish, were very good, slightly sweeter than Boiling Crab's Whole Shebang sauce but similar spice level (we always order mild). The service was very good, the waiter was attentive, and got the food and drinks to us pretty quickly. The only downside was the heat. Apparently, they have no AC, which at their pier side location is probably rarely a concern, but on an evening like last night, when the outside temp was 88 at 5:30 PM, it was like an oven inside the restaurant. Even with the slight ocean breeze coming in from the open windows and a single Walmart fan blowing full blast, the heat was pretty tough to bear. The ice cold Coronas though, did help I have to admit. Other than the heat, which I'm sure will be less of a problem in the coming months, I liked Boiling Shrimp. Considering the long drive, and sometimes very long wait at Boiling Crab, I think we've found a suitable local substitute for when we don't feel like making the Boiling Crab time commitment, but we're craving spicy seafood.
